With the launch of AMO 3.2 at http://addons.mozilla.org, we now have the ability to recommend add-ons on a per category basis. These recommended add-on will be rotated in on the category landing pages (such as the three top slots @ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/browse/type:1/cat:58).

App/project owners: can you please survey your community or simply decide and attach to this bug a set of 4-6 add-ons (but at least 2) for each category as listed on AMO for your app?

Thank you!
KaiRo asked me to comment on the SeaMonkey categories.

Summary: Need per category recommended list for SeaMonkey, Thunderbird and Sunbird → Need per-category recommended list for SeaMonkey, Thunderbird and Sunbird
Sunbird Addons:
  Providers
    4631: Provider for Google Calendar
  Calendar Enhancements
    2110: MinimizeToTray
  Language Support and Translation Tools
    883: Transliterator
Note that there are not too many Sunbird extensions, so there is no way we can list at least two per category. There is at least one other that is worth noting, but since this extension is for Lightning only (Thunderbird only in terms of AMO), I cannot list it as a Sunbird extension.

SeaMonkey and Sunbird lists have been entered into the site. Awaiting Thunderbird list.

Basil owes Thunderbird only add-on list to David Ascher for review
Severity: normal → minor
TB team, I've attached some CSV's of the add-ons that support Thunderbird functionally and not simply because TB is a XUL app. Please review and let me know if there is a selection here that makes sense to recommend in your various categories.

Thanks.
Well how about an anti-recommendation?

heh, yeah - there are some artifacts in the file. See https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4298, it's real :-)

Hmm. That's a Japanese file name with all non-ascii characters replaced by underscores :-/
Marking as not blocking for 3.2.1 - would like to get done before v3.4 - awaiting feedback from the Thunderbird team - can be completely anytime and not tied to a AMO product release cycle.
Target Milestone: 3.2.1 → 3.4
My personal suggestions for Thunderbird ones would be:

Mouse Gestures
Image Zoom
DictionarySearch
FoxClocks
ReminderFox
MinimizeToTray
DOM Inspector
Enigmail
QuoteCollapse
AboutConfig
Display Mail User Agent Extensio
Remove Duplicate Messages
Sync On Arrival
Nostalgy
Provider for Google Calendar (in conjunction with Lightning)

These are just my personal thoughts after a quick glance though.
> DOM Inspector
Hmm. I thought TB releases still came with DOMi, only nightlies didn't.

> Remove Duplicate Messages
This seems to be orphanware. There is an actively developed fork called "Remove Duplicate Messages (Alternate)":
<https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/4654>

And Gary, how about the "per category" part of this bug?
Wayne, additions to the list + categories?

I pulled the csv content into MS Works spread sheet and added a col for the Categories listed on AMO. That produced a lot of additions as I scrolled through each category and populated my spreadsheet. In the end I have a hand full that did not have an AMO item.

What are missing are some extensions that are only at sites like mozdev.org and authors own sites. I know that is outside the scope of this bug, but may be an item of interest to MoMo building more interest in authors submitting to AMO.

There are some plans for greater integration with Mozdev where releases there are automatically pushed to AMO. I don't know if there is a bug open for that yet.
Sounds good. The Mail Tweak extension is one that I use, but have to frequently revisit mozdev.org for updates.
I've updated the Thunderbird featured and category recommended lists. So, I'm going to close this bug. For more info about these lists - see http://blog.mozilla.com/basil/2008/04/24/changes-to-the-featured-recommended-add-ons-on-amo/.

At the moment there are only four featured add-ons (appearing on the front page of AMO for thunderbird):
FoxyTunes, Enigmail, Adblock Plus, Lightning

Please file other bugs or I can grant admin access to whomever needs to update the list.

To answer comment 16 and comment 17, I've had a brief discussion with David Boswell of mozdev about some cooperation. We'll be working on a spec first. We have a few bugs filed (bug 430121 and bug 430122) to help track the general feature.
