User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.13) Gecko/20080311 Firefox/2.0.0.13
Build Identifier: User-Agent: Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 (Windows/20080213)
Multi-line subjects aren't handled right in the thread pane.
The CR/LF seems to be represented as a black square:
Example:
Subject: Multi-line subjects aren't unfolded
right in thread pane
Thread pane display:
Multi-line subjects aren't unfolded&25A0;right in thread pane
This bug may be related to bug 401204
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Don't know when Thunderbird itself crates multiline subjects. The examples I have seem to be generated by KMail.
2. Make the subject field in the thread pane wide enough to display the subject up to the linefeed character.
Actual Results:
The CR/LF is displayed as some kind of unprintable
Expected Results:
According to rfc822 it should be unfolded and white space should be removed.
This is also what happens in the message pane and message window, but not in the thread pane.

Summary: Multi-line subjects aren't unfolded tight in thread pane → Multi-line subjects aren't unfolded right in thread pane

It works for me. I made a message containing (in the source):
Subject: Line one
Line two
Line three
The thread pane displays this, which is correct:
Line one Line two Line three
Note that RFC 2922 forbids the characters CR and LF in headers, except when they are used for folding as illustrated above.
If you still think that there is a bug in Thunderbird, please provide an actual example.

Are you talking about "Stand alone CR or LF in mail header"?
Or talking about "Tab character(HTAB) as folded header indicator"?
If latter, search bugzilla.mozilla.org for "open bug(Resolution=---) && bug summary contains Subject AND Tab" via "Advanced Search". You'll find all of Bug 64948, Bug 240924, and Bug 271312.

AFAIK, RFC822/RFC2822 clearly says "white space character(SP, HTAB) for header folding should NOT be removed when unfold".
Which RFC822 document at which site says "white space should be removed when unfold"?

Did some more testing.
It seems that not the CR/LF is showed, but the HTAB whitespace, and not always, but at least when the subject starts with [...], like a bugzilla e-mail for example :-)
And only in the thread pane, in the message pane it shows normal.
I'll add an example, though I don't know if you can edit it as new and put it in a folder to see what it looks like.

I noticed that the tab is also showed in the window title of the message window when you view or edit the message...

Subject header in the mail is never be a folded mail header.
> "Subject: [Test] space" + [HTAB] + "tab" + [CRLF]
Have you read all bugs I pointed in comment #2? This case is handled by Bug 64948.

You're probably right that this is the same as bug 64948 but I think it's strange that the subject is displayed different in the subject header line of the message window/paned than in the thread pane and window title.
When I have time I'll dig some more in thr RFC's because what happens now is ugly.

Can't reproduce effect of only seeing tab with subjects starting with [...].
I must have done something wrong there.
I'll bash at your interpretation of the RFC's at bug 64948.
