User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b4) Gecko/2008030714 Firefox/3.0b4
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b4) Gecko/2008030714 Firefox/3.0b4
I can't log into vanguard using the above page with beta 3 or beta 4. It doesn't seem to "recognize the computer I'm using" or get the correct value for the "Answer" field when I submit. I've verified that the info I'm entering is correct by logging in via firefox 2 and ie 7.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Go to https://personal.vanguard.com/us/hnwnesc/PMLogin, it doesn't recognize the computer and doesn't accept correct answers to security questions.
Could be a bug with vanguard.com but it would be good to know why this behavior isn't backwards compatible.

Does it work if you fake the UA string to look like Firefox 2?
1. load about:config
2. on the list context menu, New->String
3. enter "general.useragent.override" without the quotes
4. enter "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.8.1.13) Gecko/20080311 Firefox/2.0.0.13" without the quotes
5. try logging in to the site...
(to undo the above: go to about:config, click "Reset" on the context menu
for the entry you added above)

Yes, faking the user agent to report Firefox 2 works. I reported the issue to vanguard.

David, does this look like bug 417955 to you?

I'm using SeaMonkey 1.1.9 to login successfully to my account at Vanguard. I spoof Firefox only when I plan to view my tax forms. With either my actual UA or a spoofed UA, I have had no trouble with a login. Thus, I'm not really sure that this is the same as bug 417955.
Vanguard has plenty of problems with its Web site, including an excessive use of JavaScript. I would leave this bug report open, in parallel with my own 417955 (neither blocking the other).

After some back and forth with "Vanguard Web Technical Support Services" they have realized its probably not a firefox bug and are investigating.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.19) Gecko/20110420 SeaMonkey/2.0.14
I have no problem logging onto or navigating through vaguard.com. Furthermore, I just now marked my own bug #417955 as resolved.
