Thunderbird 3

(Reporter: MarcoZ, Unassigned)
Details
(Keywords: regression, Whiteboard: [hard to reproduce -- maybe gone?])
STR:
1. Start Thunderbird. In my case, it opens up in the inbox of my gmail imap account.
2. Select the last message.
3. Right-click.
4. Point to "Move to" sub menu.
Expected: Sub menu should open to "Recent", "Gmail" plus other accounts that might be in there.
Actual: Sub menu comes up completely blank. In the error console, I get:
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80550007 [nsIMsgFolder.getStringProperty]" nsresult: "0x80550007 (<unknown>)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://messenger/content/mail-folder-bindings.xml :: addIfRecent :: line 450" data: no]
This is a rather clean profile, with my gmail and MoCo IMAP servers set up, plus one feeds account, plus two nntp accounts.

If someone wants to help me figure out what that error code corresponds to, that'd be a start. Perhaps NS_MSG_ERROR_FOLDER_MISSING? http://mxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/source/mailnews/base/util/nsMsgDBFolder.cpp#1730

I agree its NS_MSG_ERROR_FOLDER_MISSING, looks like that's the likely location as well.

This isn't so severe that I'd block a time-based alpha for, but I'd sure like a fix -- and would approve one should one appear in time!

If we don't get a fix, we should relnote this one, though.

Since I don't see this, what is missing from the STR?

Nothing I'm afraid. I can still reproduce this at will in latest nightly.

I can't re-produce the bug on my solaris 11 x86 platform.
Did you install any extensions?
If yes, please try "thunderbird -safe-mode". Is the bug still there?
If the bug still exits, can you try again with a fresh profile and only your IMAP gmail account?
Thanks

I am using Windows XP. It has nothing to do with IMAP accounts as I am using only POP3. It also happens in safe mode.

This now works for me as well. It seems to be something in the Enigmail extension yet again. I had disabled it previously when testing this, but still could repro. But now I tried this again, and cannot reproduce this bug any longer.
Anything that extensions should no longer do which might cause this bug?

In reply to Comment #12 (Maro Zehe):
I cannot see it working. It still happens with the nightly build 2008061303. And it also happens with Enigmail disabled and in safe mode (which to my knowledge disables all plugins).

Yes it disables all extensions. If this somehow involves NS_MSG_ERROR_FOLDER_MISSING I assume there is a missing step in the STR where one have to delete/rename some folder.

Marco, can you no longer reproduce this, and if so, should we close the bug?

Hi,
could the problem be in the profile / folders / mails ... coming from Thunderbird 2.0 ?
In my case (where I still have the problem) Thunderbird 3.0 uses everything coming from Thunderbird 2.0 (except disabled extensions).

I can no longer reproduce it after disabling all add-ons, but there are others here that can still reproduce it even without any active add-ons, so I am not sure closing it is appropriate.

No, I created this profile with 3.0a1pre and moved along updating the nightlies regularly. This machine has never seen a TB 2.0.0.x.

For everyone's info, this WORKSFORME as well on TB 3.0a2pre Mac Leopard build with a profile built from recent nightlies. This issue seems sporadic (if it ever occurs).

Given the difficulty of reproducing this, marking as blocking-3.0a2-. It might well block Thunderbird 3, though, so nominating for that.

Marco, have you seen repros of this recently? In the meantime, denying blocking-tb3 until it seems frequent or have STR.

Given no-one seems to have reproduced/seen this for some time (and no apparent dups), I'm taking it off the relnote list for alpha 3.

Closing as WFM. Please reopen if you still, or again, see this issue come up.

I am seeing this same problem after upgrading to 3.0.1.
When I try to move or copy an email to a local folder, clicking the "File" icon or right-click then highlighting "Move To" or "Copy To", I only get a tiny empty square adjacent to the highlighted line, the square being about 1/4 the size of a typed character (clicking on the square does nothing). Safe mode, and disabling the only add-on I use (AddExpandedList), have no effect on the problem.
The last time I used 2.0.0.21 I had moved an email to a local folder, and that
"Move To xxxxxx Again" line in the right-click menu is still there and still works (but I have other local folders I'd like to move or copy emails to).

The "Move To xxxxxx Again" right-click menu line is fine in V3 (I used "xxxxxx" as a substitute for the actual folder name)... when clicked, it does move the email to that folder.

Sorry, I replied to a question aimed at Gustaff by mistake; I described how the "Move To xxxxxx Again" menu item is working for me, although the "Move To" and "Copy To" items do not work.

I'm seeing a variation of this problem in Thunderbird 3 (and I don't have ReminderFox installed, so it's not that issue). Steps:
1. Move a message from inbox to some other folder ABC
2. Select next inbox message
3. Right click
4. Notice "Move to ABC" is visible but disabled
