Occurred on 10.4 Tiger, while testing Shredder Alpha 1 build 1, with build ID version 3.0a1 (2008050714). I'm sure Leopard is affected as well. Enabling a sort order on a column header triggers an arrow depending on whether it is ascending / descending. When the column headers are small (e.g. the threaded view icon), the arrow overlaps the icon making it difficult to tell whether it is sorted by ascending or descending order. See screenshot.

Not as difficult as what's supposed to be happening, and what happens on every other platform in Tb, and every platform in SM, which is that the sort indicator is not supposed to be shown at all.
