... however, there is still a lot to do to make the download manager work as designed.

in general this works. The clear list on the popup clears the list, but when viewing the download manager from the config->donwloads (down arrow), it shows the original list. Also the config->downloads doesn't work for clearing the list. It clears from the popup download manager, but not itself. Last but not least, the search box at the bottom of config->donwloads seems to blank the screen out when trying to use it. Just some notes for where we are at alpha.

Some more notes related to download manager (feel free to tell me to enter a separate bug). If you are downloading a file (say a .pdf), and you get the option to save or open and a checkbox to do this all the time for files of this type. When I check the checkbox to always save the file and then click ok, it mentions this can be turned off in the options menu of preferences. We need to fix the message displayed to the end user and provide a method for the user to edit the setting in the future if they choose to.

prism has a similar bug (bug 461786)
double clicking a downloaded file does not launch the associated application. For example a .install file is a known file type, but double clicking it doesn't do anything
