User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.14) Gecko/20080404 Firefox/2.0.0.14 Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 2.0.0.14 (20080421) I frequently reply to emails sent from Windows (Outlook) in Big5 format or using the Traditional Chinese system. Since I told my computer to reply to emails in the format emails were received, I use Big5 to reply, but my messages are in English. My Thunderbird options include making a background save every 5 minutes. When composing an email, I get a pop-up window every 5 minutes (sometimes it seems more frequent) that says: The message you composed contains characters not found in the selected Character Encoding. While you can choose a different Character Encoding, it is usually save to use Unicode (UTF-8) for mail. If you just send in the current Character Encoding, be aware that those not covered by the current Character Encoding will be turned to question marks and illegible by the recipient." Then I am given 3 options to click: "Send in UTF8," "Send anyway," and "Cancel." Cancel is usually correct, because I am still composing my email. When I am ready to send and click "Send" the message reappears and "Send in UTF-8." The problem is that this window appears before I am ready to send the email! It is very nagging! I cannot ignore the pop-up and continue typing--I have to click an option to continue. When I am typing, the window seems to appear more frequently. If I just leave the email open but do not edit, then the window will pop up every 5 minutes. This has happened in all versions of Thunderbird (from beginning to present) when responding to emails sent from Chinese system computers. It never happens when responding to emails sent from English system computers. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Reply to a message sent in Big5 format or from a Computer using a Chinese operating system. 2. Take your time with the reply (or stop half way to dig out a web reference). If the compose message box is open longer than 5 minutes, the pop-up message will appear. Because the message sometimes seems to appear more often than 5 minutes, a "Send" hot-key may be involved. 3. Message will continue to interrupt composing the email until you finally agree to send--it's very nagging! Actual Results: Nagging only stops when I send the email. Expected Results: This pop-up window should only appear after I have clicked "Send." It should not interrupt me when I am typing an email. In Options>>Composition, I have checked: "Autosave every 5 minutes" and "Confirm when using keyboard shortcut to send message" The thing is, I do not use keyboard shortcuts with Thunderbird (only click and Mouse Gestures). In fact, I tried looking for a place (off line) that listed keyboard shortcuts and for the option of turning OFF the keyboard shortcuts--couldn't find anything. But then, I'm not convinced that accidental activation of a keyboard shortcut is the problem, since I do not activate any other shortcuts and type about 70 words a minute (after subtraction of error and typos).
Not an issue for thunderbird3 (due to bug 410333).
