Linux (2000-06-26-08 M17) Mac (2000-06-26-08 M17) Steps: 1. Launch Messenger 2. Set preference to receive biff every 1 minutes 3. Exit and relaunch 4. Click on Get message and mark all messages read 5. From another machine, send a message to this (imap) account Actual result: I do not see any BIFF icon in the Status bar. I have to click on Get Message so that it will appear. Expected result: Biff icon should appear in the Status bar This occurs on LInux and Mac. Win_nt does not have this problem

Biff Icon does not automatically appear in the Account level icon on Mac and Linux. I have to select the account, select Inbox for it to appear. Win32 is fine. Gayatri, if you want a separate bug for account level, please let me know.
Please ignore my comment about the account level. It is working as expected. I should logon to the account to get BIFF to work.
Once you logon into the account, I would expect the status bar also to work. When I tested this on Mac and Linux, it was working fine. Not sure what the problem might be... esp. as it is working on windows. Will look into it.

ok. I just tried my Linux debug build and this worked fine. I saw it not work on Fenella's machine so perhaps there's a difference between release and debug or perhaps there's some other variable we don't know about.
I tried biff on today's builds on WindowsNT/Linux/Mac and it works as expected. I'd like to watch this with Fenella as I can't reproduce it. I thought I'd mention the sequence of steps that need to be done before biff can take effect. Please do the following: How to enable: After opening the mail window, go to: Edit Mail/News Account Settings Server (mail server) Check the option that says "Check for new mail every xx min" And enter your favorite time interval to check mail Click on OK. Unfortunately, you would have to RESTART the application for this setting to take effect. It is a bug that needs to be fixed... Bug 24594. Once you restart the app, and open the mail window, you should remember to LOGIN into your accounts (impa/Pop). You should now see biff working. Please try again with the above sequence of steps, and see if it works.
I also thought I'd add that on Imap accounts I think you are automatically asked to enter your password. So you know you have logged in. Whereas on pop accounts, to login, you have to explicitly do a GetMsg. Only then you will be prompted with a password dialog, after entering which you are logged in. From then on biff should work.
Linux (2000-06-27-09 M17) I agree. BIFF icon automatically appears in the Status bar in Messenger and Browser and (2000-06-28-08 M17) It works in the status bar in Messenger. Unable to see it in Browser because of bug 44101
Summary: Biff icon does not automatically appear in status bar → Biff icon does not automatically appear in taskbar
Linux (2000-07-05-08 M17) Win32 (2000-07-05-09 M17) Mac (2000-07-05-10 M17) This problem is fixed in POP and IMAP on all platforms. However, BIFF icon in Account level should not be green diamond. It should be downward arrow. See Bug 44600 for this problem. Mark this bug fixed.
