This was not a problem with Thunderbird 2, but the current Thunderbird trunk doesn't let you use an imap server if it has a self signed cert. Bringing back the UI where the user can add the self-signed cert as an exception seems like the right thing to do, or Thunderbird 3 won't be usable for those who are unwilling to pay for a cert for an imap server.

Ok, turns out there's a way to make this work in Thunderbird 3 as well, *if* you can get your hands on the cetificate file (.pem) you can add it as a certificate authority and that way it'll be accepted, but that's a far cry from user friendly IMO.
