Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008061004 Firefox/3.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008061004 Firefox/3.0

After a time the address bar will not load up new typed URL's. If you manually type or alter a URL in the address bar and hit the "Enter" key or the go button. However any bookmarked URLs work fine. If you restart the browser it fixes the problem for a time then it starts again.
It also happens in FF2.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use browser as normal
2. After a time (not sure on the length) the address bar refuses to load a hand typed or altered URL
3.
Actual Results:
The address bar does not load up the URL.

Expected Results:
The hand typed URL loads in the browser and you can see it.
I believe this was reported before and it was caused by an extension.
Chris - does this happen in Safe Mode; are you running any add-ons? (Could you list them if so, please? Thanks!)
my friend has the exact same version with exact same problem. all he has installed is firebug.
I'm really sorry the reproducibility of this bug is so poor, but that said, I see this problem very reliably -- about once a day. I tried re-installing but that did not help. I know other Mac user who has seen this problem also.

Here's what I see when it happens:

-Click a url on the page. The visual feedback on the clicked url is normal, but nothing happens. I think the old url remains up in the location bar. If you keep clicking away, maybe 20 times, sometimes it goes through.

-Type a new url into the location bar and hit return. There's a brief flash at the lower right of the window as the little progress bar appears and then disappears instantly. You can move the cursor up to the location bar and keep hitting return, and it just keeps flashing the progress bar but doing nothing.

-Another symptom which appears at the same time is that some sites will load but have a funny layout (e.g. nytimes.com). Sometimes text will load but not images. I'm assuming this is because the basic url mechanism is broken at a lower level, and so css etc. are not loading right.

-Here's an interesting related symptom: At the same time, sometimes the Firefox > Quit menu item will stop working. You select it and just nothing happens. Sometimes a right-click on the dock icon to quit also stops working. In a few cases, I have also seen the red close-box on the window stop working. On being clicked, it changes its appearance from red to gray, but the window does not close.

I have the latest FlashBlock installed and GreaseMonkey is installed but not activated. I'm running intel OS X 10.4.11. I have seen this bug in the beta and release versions of Firefox 3 and I also saw it on Firefox 2, but it was less frequent.

Given that I can seemingly reproduce this bug in a day or two, I'd be happy to install some sort of debugger or consistency checker or whatever to try to dump the Firefox's internal state to try to figure out what's amiss when this bug is happening.

Sounds like bug 376084 to me, although I've seen it happen without add-ons too.
