Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1pre) Gecko/2008070106 GranParadiso/3.0.1pre
Build Identifier: Firefox 3
no further details
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Removed version 2.0.0.14
Deleted Mozilla Firefox directory in Program Files folder
Downloaded and installed Firefox 3
It then showed the 2.0.0.15 download in progress in Help menu

After restart, was running 2.0.0.15 instead of Firefox 3!
Expected Results:
I was hoping the Firefox 3 install would have "stuck".
No additional information.

How are you "removing" 2.0.0.14? Are you not using the uninstaller?

I used Windows' Control Panel "Add or Remove Programs".
It seemed to start installing 2.0.0.15 almost immediately upon start of Version 3.
Maybe it was part way through the install when I uninstalled it. In any event, it should not do this or let you know or give the option or something other than an unrequested downgrade!

I can't reproduce this at all. Are you able to reproduce? Can you give more thorough steps?

Could you please attach the updates.xml file from your Firefox Application Folder
to this bug ?

After the downgrade, I uninstalled again, then deleted the program folder (AGAIN!), then installed 3.0 AGAIN!!!!
This time it took, so no, I cannot attach that now. Sorry.

Possibly the same root cause as bug 437969.

I thought version 3 was to fix a bunch of security problems.

Without further info such as the updates.xml file this bug won't get any traction so duping over to bug 437969 which likely has the same root cause.

Version 3 is primarily a new feature release, although there are architectural changes that make users safer. Downgrading a user affects their security so this is a "security bug", but since this doesn't appear to be something an attacker can cause it doesn't need to be considered "sensitive" and hidden from public view.

Not seeing a file called updates.xml anywhere on the system.

To clarify, it did the same thing on a different system. If you point me to the updates.xml file, I can try to locate it and upload it, but can't wait too long, as we want to be done with this installation soon. Thanks.
