something happened. i have no idea what. but if i type www.google.com, for exmple, into the address bar it comes up in my history drop down thing, because i use it frequently but when i click on it the browser doesn't go anywhere. the green arrow is there but it's useless. the only way i have now to go to a site is to use the google toolbar to search and then click on the result that i need or use a book mark. not very handy.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.open browser
2.type in url
3.hit enter
4.wish longingly for some way to make the browser work correctly (there is no go button, i can't even get into about:config to see if i can poke a round and get it back to the way it was. I really don't want to have to reinstall firefox again. this happened before and i reinstalled it and lost everything.)
Actual Results:
it's just like typing something into a text box...nothing happens when you press enter
Expected Results:
the browser should navigate to the url i entered
the browser doesn't crash it just becomes useless for 88% of what i use it for.
try safe mode.
Safe Mode is a special way of running Firefox that temporarily disables extensions, themes and toolbar changes.
Full safe mode instructions are at http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode.
also, possible duplicate of Bug 439233
after a lot of looking around, thank gawd for google, I found this site http://nancib.wordpress.com/2008/03/04/regain-the-persistent-go-button-in-firefox-3/ that fixed the problem. but i'd still invite the developers to make it so that that functionality never randomly disappears.

looking at the other bug, Bug 439233, i think it's important to note that i use the del.icio.us toolbar.

That "fix" that they gave, just makes the go button there all the time. Have you tried safe mode?
to be straight with you i don't know what safe mode is or how to use it, never having needed it before
figured out about safe mode via http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode. but i don't see why i'd want to start firefox without all my add-ons.
Because then it we could see if one of your add-ons is causing a problem.

So that we can determine which, if any, add-on might be causing the bug.

oh ok. do you want me to move the userChrome.css out and try it in safe mode?

no, just safe mode, for now. if that doesn't work try a new profile.

but the issue has been resolved since adding the persistent go button to the userChrome.css.
