Using Commercial 2000070608 on WinNT 4.0 SP4. To repro: 1) go to above URL (which is basically all the open [nsbeta2+] Gecko bugs) 2) print Browser prints the page successfully, but then hangs. Was able to reliably reproduce. (However my machine is highly fragmented, so if others can't repro, that might be the reason.)

I see it on windows (2000070608). Raising severity: major.
Severity: normal → major

Seems this bug happens when there is some bad HTML and when the page is layed out for printing.. the parent can not be found. On a normal page this will stop at the canvas frame.. for printing there is no canvas frame.. and this causes an assert and then crashing. The quick fix is to fix the bugzilla output to have good html.. I will research how to keep Mozilla from crashing in this situation.

cc:ing Tara and Matty as an FYI as Don reports that Bugzilla may be outputting bad HTML here. Don, do you want to mention what problem you noticed in particular with the HTML markup?

I noticed that there was an extra </table> tag that was part of the Bugzilla report, when I removed this the page printed fine.

I get this 100% using today's opt verification build on Win98 (and a very short list of + bugs). nominating for nsbeta2 & dogfood, bumping severity to critical since it crashes.

I don't think this would be fixed for Saturdays release.. the problem is deep in Layout.. and it seems to be because of bad HTML (unbalanced table tags seems to be the main culprit) on a complex page. If the bugzilla output can be fixed then we don't crash..

Putting on [dogfood+][nsbeta2-] radar. If we can get bugzilla queries to print (by correcting the bad html in bugzilla) then we will make this dogfood-. But if you can find this problem on any top100 site, we will nsbeta2+ it.

Clearing [nsbeta2-] to trigger re-evaluation. Marking top100 because this is now happening when printing cnn.com, and regression. jpatel earlier noted: "if you can find this problem on any top100 site, we will nsbeta2+ it." So please mark nsbeta2+.

Actually www.cnn.com has not printed for a while.. that was another bug dupped against this one. The bugzilla was more of a regression than cnn. This seems to be some kind of problem with scroll frames, GFX scroll bars inside of tables...

This would be a good nsbeta2- bug. It seems that a scrollable item in a table on the second page causes this crash. This is a problem deep in the bowels of layout.. so if I did find and fix this the people who would best review the fix are on sabatical (Steve Clark and Chris Karnaze). I will continue to work on this, but even if this bug is found.. this is a potential for destabalizing the product is high since it would be a fix in deep core layout.
