Lightning only works in Thunderbird and can't be installed in firefox since version 0.3pre or version 0.2. You should save the xpi on your computer and then open it from the addon-menu in Thunderbird. Setting to invalid.

Hi, sorry my mistake - on the thunderbird web site, clicking the download installs the xpi file within thunderbird, (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/downloads/file/26261/lightning-0.8-tb-linux.xpi) If you click on the "other os" at http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/ and then download the file http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/calendar/lightning/releases/0.8/contrib/linux-x86_64/ it is installed within Firefox I have downloaded the file and then installed this directly within thunderbird, that worked correctly. Thanks for the quick response, Brian
