rare, but unread messages randomly go read. imap. options: mark read after 999 seconds. Today's example, I clicked on the about:mozilla email and it immediately went unread I've had 3-4 other messages go unread in the past 2 weeks. iirc, they are all in close proximity to the last message clicked, and usually with a slight but perceptible delay relative to the click. (But has never been the message last clicked until the about:mozilla case above)
sound like dupe for me if we talk about IMAP
look for bug 410148
