suso, any news on this ?
I'm asking...
Pascal:

Keeping current values will not hurt, given that proper translation is provided.

Thanks,
Closing the bug.

Reopening. "will not hurt" is not good enough a reason for not proposing changes ;)

Attached file Modified index.html
Indeed...

I'm attaching a modified file proposing a change that could improve our user's experience, instead of that "gumtree" site. That site it's only related to Great Britain, and keeping it will not hurt, but it does not provide any valuable contribution.

As that link is under the "communities" section, and there is no similar service here, the main community here is the chuza.org one.

So I changed the links and descriptions based in those of the Chuza description, provided that Chuza ppl agreed before on beeing linked from Firefox.

The only problem I found is the image one: I saw the initial webpage has all their images under the /img/tignish/ tree; in order to add chuza, it might be neccessary to add this image to that tree:

http://chuza.org/img/chuzamario.png

Meanwhile I linked to that URI instead of the /img/tignish/site-chuza.png (or what might be chosen there for the name).

About all the other links, they are ok. While most of them are not in galician language, they provide the closest translation according to the user browser preferences, and all them are usefull and well-known services here around. Added to that mozdev ppl was notified about on-line status of those contents:

http://www.mozdev.org/pipermail/galician/2008-September/000441.html

so if they want changes over the current translated page, they just will say.

Anyway, I'll prefer to stay things as they currently are, and wait for users feedback during the public release of the oficial galician translation, which is a good opportunity to obtain a quality feedback.

Thanks,
No new sugestions on links changes, so I'll close this bug. For sure this part of the web resources will be improved when oficial firefox is launched with users feedback: a good way to gain involvement by their side.
Closing this bug.

Hi Suso,

I'd like to revisit this topic. I agree with your comment 7, but I also think that the beta release is, as well, intended to gather this kind of feedback. Have you got any feedback from the users so far? I see in the comment 6 that you discussed this with the community at some point. Have there been any new suggestions since then?

Comment 6 also mentions replacing Gumtree with Chuza.org - I think we should try to make this happen before gl gets out of beta.

Let me know what our thoughts are and feel free to share ideas.

Maybe something from http://www.dmoz.org/World/Galego/ would be a good choice? How about http://www.culturagalega.org/ for example?

As I previously said, there were no new suggestions from our community once my request for suggestions was made. Of course, you are free to inquire our community about.

About your proposal on replacing the Gumtree with Chuza before moving it from beta, I might strongly disagree: first because it's just a sugestion by me, with no other feedback from community; and second because, based on my perception of the frustration in the galician community, we will no obtain more answers from them at this point.

Perhaps you can find a better solution to motivate them than moving out of beta: I can't. Without motivation I can't find how we can obtain feedback from the community and, therefore, having some minimal security on beeing working in the right direction.
PS: Of course those two proposals (dmoz and culturagalega) are interesting, but there are others, some of them have political implications, and any case those might be proposed to our community and then they will decide.

Following bug's description and following previous commonwork, I'm closing it.

If someone wants to revisit again this bug, as this is directly related with internal galician community dinamics, I'll encourage you to contact me directly by mail before doing it -or personally during the Mozilla Camp.

It turns out that Pascal was super-quick and corrected the file even before us :) Here's the missing Segundamano's logo.
Suso, Pascal, can you please review these differences and decide which version is better?

Pascal, this patch also changes the URL of the Wikipedia link to gl.wikipedia.org.
Didn't spot Qype instead of Segundamano. Better patch.
