Clicking on a link such as news:g6nb4p$220t$1@news.grc.com posted in a newsgroup creates a new - blank news account in Tbird that cannot be undone from within Tbird. Upon running Tbird after this has happened I get a new account username prompt. I also noticed that every time I run Tbird after this has happened it creates another news account in the prefs.js and news-1, news-2 folders under the profile. To fix I replaced my prefs.js file with one from a backup only 2 days old and deleted news-1 subfolders and news-1.rc files. Then to identify the problem I backed up my working prefs.js then opened that one and the active one in Notepad++ in side by side compare mode, then clicked on that link in the NG. Sure enough that link created a new news account in the active prefs.js! I click the link a couple more times and it updated with two more accounts!
In each of the new news accounts in the prefs.js there is one line that isn't in any of my normal account settings:
user_pref("mail.server.server20.valid", false);
I wonder if that line is what is causing TB to not make any changes or deletions to these new news accounts?
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Tbird, open a news group post
2. Click on a news group link such as news:g6nb4p$220t$1@news.grc.com that would normally jump to the post in in OE6 and 40Tude.
3. Close Tbird
4. Open Tbird and there will be a new news account called "news", and it will prompt for account user information but will not save it.
Expected Results:
Either jump to a newsgroup post or ignore the link.
