User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.2) Gecko/2008091620 Firefox/3.0.2 Build Identifier: verion 2.0.0.17 (20080914) when ever the auto update tries to updatee thunderbird, It says it can't complete because one or more files could not be updated, It does not tell what files they are. says check that no programs are using the files and that you have permission to modify files. I am the owner/operator of this computer. It happens with every auto update. This is not a new bug. mozmapi32.dll doesn't update I am forced to rename the old mozmapi32.dll in order for any of the thunderbird updates to work if I didn't know which file to rename i would have already switched back to outlook express. another problem I have is not import and export of emails, not to other email programs export is especialy important when upgrading computers or hard drives. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.let thunderbird autoupde mozmapi32.dll doesn't update I am forced to rename the old mozmapi32.dll in order for any of the thunderbird updates to work if I didn't know which file to rename i would have already switched back to outlook express renders thunderbird unusable until fixed. been this way on windows xp and vista windows xp PII hp laptop 1.06 mz ram 1 gig hd 40 windows vista toshiba laptop amd turion 64 x2 1.6 ghz 1 gig ram 160 gb hd windows vista toshiba laptop amd turion 64 x2 1.8 ghz 1 gig ram 200 gb hd all three of them have 128 megs of video ram. I have a standard install. untill recently I didn't have any pgp security installed and it was happening I believe from the first time I used it. Could be a terrible bug If I didn't know how to fix it. I would lose all my email.I am sick of fixxing it!

I get exactly the same loop message "One or more file could not be updated. Please make sure all the other applications are closed and that you have permission to modify files, and then restart again". I have administrator privilege, and I have tried to close all the other program, but I cannot start thunderbird to see my mail, and I get this continuous message, no matter what other program I am using. Have you found some solution? Or do I have to uninstall thunderbird to stop it, loosing all my messages?
Disable your logitech quick cam if you have one installed.
I have not done anything, but today the loop is not there anymore. I do have a Logitech Cam, but I have not unistalled it. I have no idea of what happened, just glad it did
Automatic update is giving me the same problem today, 03/19/2009 on Windows Vista and I do NOT have a "Logitech Cam".
