Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3

I can not do the following things while searching for bookmarks, although I expected Firefox to have them by default:

-Using the location bar: I would like to find bookmarks using their assigned keywords.

-Using the bookmarks search bar in the side bar: I would like to find bookmarks using their assigned keywords and/or their containing folder name.

-Using the search function in the Library: I would like to find bookmarks using their assigned keywords and/or their containing folder name.
In addition, I would like to see a column in the results that displays the names of the folders in which the found bookmarks are in.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Search for a bookmark in the location bar using a keyword
2.Search for a bookmark in the side bar using a keyword/Folder Name
3.Search for a bookmark in the Library using a keyword/Folder Name
Actual Results:
No bookmarks found while searching with keyword/Folder Name

Expected Results:
Bookmarks should be found while searching with keyword/Folder Name

The extension "KeywordManager" implements Keyword Search but needs a lot of improvement. (some of those: you can not open bookmarks through it, nor display tags)

Really, it doesn't work.
Try adding the following keywords to 3 or more of your bookmarks and let me know what you find (Keywords: freeware backup). Maybe it works if it is added to one bookmark or without spaces, but I have many bookmarks with the same keywords (I was using them as tags before FF3).

Bug 406157 does not address the case of searching by keywords.

I found an extension to do this, I hope it is added to FF3 someday:
Show Parent Folder
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7372
Summary: Searching in bookmarks using Keywords or Folder Name is not available!! → Searching in bookmarks using Keywords is not available!!
I got this by email:

Marco Bonardo [:mak77] <mak77@bonardo.net> changed:

          What |Removed |Added
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary|Searching in bookmarks |Searching in bookmarks
                  |using Keywords or Folder |using Keywords is not
                  |Name is not available!! |available!!

I don't know why did you delete "Folder Name" from the summary although searching using "Folder Name" in the location bar or the side bar (and even the library search) is not available?!

I changed it back to what it used to be.
Summary: Searching in bookmarks using Keywords is not available!! → Searching in bookmarks using "Keywords" or "Folder Name" is not available!!
because folder is already covered by another bug, please don't change back bugs when they are corrected

I confirm the bug on Ubuntu 8.10 and Firefox 3.0.4. To reproduce: I added to a bookmark the keyword MonMotTest. I searched for MonMotTest in the location bar: no result. I searched for MonMotTest in the bookmarks manager and the bookmarks sidebar: no result neither.
Bugs are already filed for searching for folders, or searching for bookmarks by folder name, as Marco pointed out in comment #2. Do not change the title back.

This bug is now covering searching bookmarks by keyword in the Library and Sidebar.

Keyword search in the location bar works: I use it hundreds of times every day to look up bugzilla bugs. If it's not working for you, please file a separate bug for that problem.

The keyword search you are referring to is different than the one I mentioned.

Searching websites using keywords is working, but searching for BOOKMARKS using the entries of the keywords field is not (you will know what I mean if you used the keywords field as a tagging field before the release of FF3).

Also, a new thing that I noticed is searching for bookmarks using the "Description" field is not supported. This is really crucial for people who store notes in it.

The extensions "Advanced Bookmark Search" and "Enhanced Bookmark Search" used to deal with these issues, but they are not supported anymore in FF3.

Yes, I confirm.

I agree with this. It's really crucial.
