User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3

Since around beggining of November Firefox 3.0.3 randomly crashes when playing videos on YouTube. It doesn't crash on other video sites, it also hangs in safe mode.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Try http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3M4_XZ3FLHw video, as this one ose most likely to reproduce problem constantly.
2.
3.
Actual Results:
My one system BSODs, other just crashes Firefox.

Expected Results:
Video plays normally, or doesn't play if it's bad. In any case Firefox stability shouldn't be jeopardized.
OSes crashes are always problems with the OS or drivers. You might want to check to see if you can update your graphics card drivers.

For the crash within Firefox, it's probably just the Flash plugin and not Firefox. Please update to Flash 10 if you're still using Flash 9, as they've fixed many issues:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Yeah, BSOD itself is from a faulty memory but it only pops up on app crashes.

Anyway, crash is tested on other machine as well on multiple versions of flash:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=941105&start=15&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
I've also noticed this odd behaviour between Firefox and YouTube. I'm currently running Flash 10.0 r12, as reported by about:plugins, in Firefox 3.0.3 on Vista Home Premium(32bit).

Flash behaves well on other sites, and watching embedded YouTube videos on other sites works fine. However, when I watch videos on the YouTube site, Firefox sometimes slow down when I navigate away from the video, and other times it just crashes completely with the error report window. With some videos it works as it should with no problems.
Summary: Firefox 3.0.3 crashes when playing videos on YouTube → Firefox 3.0.3-3.0.4 crashes when playing videos on YouTube
Unless you can provide steps for someone else to consistently reproduce this crash, there's nothing we can do. Even if you could, if it's Flash crashing then it's an Adobe bug and not a Mozilla bug.

You could post a link to a crash report with a stack trace.
http://developer.mozilla.org/En/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_for_a_bug_report
Yes, problem is I can't get it to reproduce anymore :)
I've posted instructions how to get a stacktrace in the thread I've mentioned a week ago. People are still reporting it, with all versions of flash player, unfortunately nobody responded with a stack trace, maybe the crash reporter data shows something more helpful :)

As for adobe/mozilla bug, I personally had none of similar problems with opera or internet explorer, and you'll notice in the same thread majority of people is reporting the same behavior.

Obviously there's no help without narrowing it down, just wanted to make sure devs are aware of it, maybe in the future a way could be conjured to keep plugins from freezing/crashing firefox.
are they using flash 9? as noted in comment 1 your customers will need to update to flash 10 if you want our crash reporter to catch crashes from it.

otherwise if they insist on using flash 9, there's hardly any point, but you'd need them to use windbg (or if they're willing to share private info w/ you, they could use drwatson [drwtsn32 -i] and send you the dump and you could do the rest of the legwork).
There's been a slight misunderstanding :)
I'm not talking about my customers, I'm talking about people from mozillaZine forums that posted their problems in this thread:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=941105&start=60&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

I personally had this problem in both 3.0.3 and 3.0.4 with flash 9 and flash 10.0 r12 (also reported here in comment #3 and many times in the thread I've mentioned)

I can't reproduce problem anymore. I haven't done anything to solve the problem so I've assumed it must be fix from the YouTube side, unfortunately people are still reporting they are having problems.

If this was a beta bug, it would be easy to get a crashdump, unfortunately people posting in help/support threads of MZ can't be bothered to debug application :)
Here is a crash report for this problem:
http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/22aff62e-7c23-42af-9232-b4e320081111
I believe that particular crash was triggered by loading the following Youtube site in a few tabs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2kJZOfq7zk

I was running Firefox 3.0.3 and Flash 9 r124 with Flashblock 1.5.6 enabled at the time. It would crash *before* I clicked to unblock the Flash video.

The problem started around 2-3 weeks ago. I soon stopped using Firefox for visiting youtube.com because of the crashes. Trying again this week, Firefox no longer crashed (using the same configuration as before).

Like others in the aforementioned mozillazine thread, the crashing only occurred when visiting a video at youtube.com. Youtube videos embedded in other websites (e.g. Google video) did not cause any crashes.

Comments	Probably not Flash-related since I'm using Flashblock and it crashes before I unblock the Flash video. Crashing started within the past week, but I've made no software updates in a month. Has there been an update to YouTube?

I just upgraded to Firefox 3.0.4, Flash 10.0.12.36, and Flashblock 1.5.7. After visiting Youtube a few times, it crashed again on this page:

Crash report:
http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/1b86568c-4192-430b-a856-37abb2081126

Although related to Flash, I have had no crashes when viewing an embedded video that is not on youtube.com. In addition, I have had no crashes when using Internet Explorer to watch videos at youtube.com.
Test with Flashblock disabled.

Adobe and Google are working together to resolve this issue. Thanks for the report and all the information.
this issue should be resolved at this point
Thank you. Closing this and the other (bug 467284) as WFM then.

Please re-open if this specific crash comes back again.
