We are organizing a second round of the "Firefox in your country" survey which is scheduled for launch on December 12. The locales for this round include:
es-ES, fr, fy-NL, it, nl, ro
We would like to ask you to translate the attached questions for this survey.
The format of the file is:
;English text
Translated text
Please use an UTF-8-enabled text editor and attach you translations to this bug. Ideally, we would like to get them back by December 10, so that you have another 2 days to test the survey.
You'll see a couple of duplicated strings in the l10n file (e.g. "Yes" or "Other"). These are provided for context, and be aware that only the last occurrences will be actually used, so please translate them consistently. Don't hesitate to ask questions in this bug, if you have any.
Thanks so much!

Maybe question #20 (What operating system do you use?) should allow multiple answers (and so it should be "what operating systems do you use?")

Francesco: Yes, there are going to be checkboxes in this question. You can preview the survey here: http://euro-surveys.php5stage.mozilla.com/?id=14
I won't change the text of this question now, but feel free to translate it using the plural form.

Added Vietnamese in r20492. Thanks Hung!

Greek translation of the survey
The link to the "how to get involved" page points to a page which is available only for en-US and the language menu on that page redirects to the main index of mozilla-europe, instead of a localized page. There's a page with the same content available for all locales at /firefox/community. The only difference is that there's no menus on that page (at least for the locales i checked).

George, good catch. I will update the URL for all locales at once before we launch the survey.
I checked the Greek translation in in r20496 and enabled it for the survey in r20497. Thanks!

Hi George, thanks for the pointer to the correct get involved page. The idea here is to put the most appropriate page for people who want to participate in the Mozilla project in their region. It can be on a community site or on the mozilla pages, so suggestions are most welcome.

Hi Stas,
I would like to translate servey interface in to Sinhala (si) to start the survey in Sri Lanka.
And also I have few suggestions as well.
01. use both Sinhala and English interface
02. add a question to existing Firefox users, some thing like
"Your Firefox locale English [] or Sinhala []
Actually I want to know as Fx is only well-known SW came in Sinhala.
and one more, do you interest on Fx Sinhala
02. Adding Sri Lanka to the country list
03. Adding few more countries to the 'to the country list', i.e EMEA and APAC

Great, thanks! I filed bug 468144 for that.

OK, we can do this.

> "Your Firefox locale English [] or Sinhala []
> Actually I want to know as Fx is only well-known SW came in Sinhala.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to add questions per locale. All locales need to have the same questions. But we will be able to which Firefox version the respondents are using, and we will ask them what country they're from
>
> 02. Adding Sri Lanka to the country list
Yes, definitely. The reason it's not there right now is that we olnly list English-speaking countries when the survey is displayed in English. We will change this behavior to show all countries.
> 03. Adding few more countries to the 'to the country list', i.e EMEA and APAC
Yep, same as above.

If some of the choices don't make sense for your locale, please make the appropriate substitutions and let us know.
For example, "school" might not reflect all types of educational institution in some places, so you could replace it for example with "school/college/university" or "educational institution" or something else.
Thanks!

Attached is the Hebrew version of the survey. Some changes made to the translation strings as follow -
* Added short notice about using male gender in some strings.
* Changed "Internet Cafe" to "Public Computer" since the "Internet Cafe" term is used here by illegal gambling places (in order to hide their real usage of the computers) and to also cover other places such as public computers in the library for example.
* Changed "School" to "Education/Academic Institute".
Interface translation is bug 468101.

Stas, how is this going to get into public? Do we have to place postings in forums etc.?
I am working on the Frisian version right now. In future surveys, please note that there are multiple languages in 1 country, like Dutch an Frisian in The Netherlands, but also these languages are spoken all over the world.
The timespan for delivering the translation is a bit short if you ask me, less than a week. Hopefully we wil get some more time the next time, so we can plan this next to our normal daily job.
Till later....

Sorry I didn't answer your questions right away, I was in a rush preparing for a travel :)

That would be most helpful. We will rely on the community communication and word of mouth for this survey. If you can post the URL in forum, on a blog or even as your IM status, that would be awesome. Thanks in advance!
> I am working on the Frisian version right now. In future surveys, please note
> that there are multiple languages in 1 country, like Dutch an Frisian in The

We're interested in The Netherlands in particular in this round, which is why we asked to localize the questions to Frisian and Dutch. I see you point about these languages being spoken all over the world -- let's add an additional question asking what country the respondents come from. You can see an example of such a question here (at the bottom):
http://euro-surveys.php5stage.mozilla.com/?id=15&flocale=fr
(this will force the site to display in French). Other locales for which we have this additional question include German, Spanish and English.
Would you mind preparing a list of countries that we should list?
> The timespan for delivering the translation is a bit short if you ask me, less

Sorry for that. I know the survey is quite long. We will try to make more time for translation next time. And thanks for translating the questions so quickly nevertheless, it is greatly appreciated.

Spanish (es-ES) translation.
http://www.mozilla.com/about/get-involved.html link should be replaced by http://xx-XX.www.mozilla.com/xx-XX/firefox/community/ for better user experience.
Also, like the fist survey, I suppose we should replace "your country" by our country name.

I would be in favor of leaving "your country" in the title as in the original (in both es-ES and es-AR). We would love to target all South America (not just single country, Spain, as in the first round) and we won't be able to tell what countries will participate in the end. Leaving "your country" is a more generic and thus more flexible solution.
Nukeador, Guillermo: would you mind providing a translation for "Firefox in your country", please?

Stas,
What will be the final URL?
Is it possible to include the language in the URL, or is this depending on the user settings? Probably something like url-?id=15&flocale=fy.
I really would like to point people to Dutch or Frisian right away in my blog and forumposts, maybe even local newspapers.
> let's add an additional question asking what country the respondents are from.
> Would you mind preparing a list of countries that we should list?
For Dutch the question would be:
"In welk land of continent woont u?"
The coutries/continents to include:
Nederland, België, Duitsland, anders in Europa, Azië, Afrika, Amerika, Antarctica, Australië.
For Frisian the question would be:
"Yn hokker provinsje, lân of kontinent wenje jo?"
The coutries/continents to include:
Fryslân, Nederlân, België, Dútslân, oars yn Europa, Azië, Afrika, Amearika, Antarktika, Australië.
Thanks in advance,

The final URL will be:
http://surveys.mozilla.org/?id=16
(Note that this is 16, not 15. 15 is for tests and will be open even after we close the survey.)
To specify the locale in the URL, you can use:
* for Frisian: http://surveys.mozilla.org/?id=16&plocale=fy-NL
* for Dutch: http://surveys.mozilla.org/?id=16&plocale=nl
I'll add the "where do you come from" questions this afternoon. Thanks a lot for this!

Hi Danishka. No worries, please take care of your father first. I hope he is OK.
We're still open for new translations and we'll be happy to have Sinhala as well, of course. But if you can't make it now, we can launch the survey in Sri Lanka early next year, in the next round.

Right now on http://surveys.mozilla-europe.org/ there's a live survey (id=18) not localized (or at least not localized in Italian, and I think it was already available in Italian in the past), while this survey (id=15) is reachable but not published on the front page.

Re. comment 53 -- Guillermo, no problem.
Re. comment 54 and comment 55 -- the "Localization QA & Testing" (#18) is a different survey that we are running at the same time (rather coincidentally) that is not supposed to be translated, as it is targeted at localizers only. Seth or I should post about it today on planet.
The "Firefox in Your Country" survey will have id=16 (15 was used for tests). It's not available in all locales, so I thought I wouldn't make it show up on the main page. Maybe for locales that don't participate in this round it should be listed with an English title and information that it's not available in their language?

This question allows a single answer on purpose. It reads: "What do you think is the primary reason they would switch web browsers?" We really want the respondents to think of a *primary* reason, and select only one.
We can of course re-think this question for the next round, but right now, almost 4.5 thousands surveys taken in (in one day! w00t!!), we shouldn't really change the design of the survey.

Here's the status:
The survey closed on the 26th, we received over 34000 responses, which is really amazing (including over 8000 from the Netherlands, thanks Wim for all the PR!).
We're now analyzing the results and will start publishing them as soon as we have something good to share.
Thanks everyone for your help with this project! We're already thinking about the next round. As soon as we review the results from this round we'll see if more questions need tweaking and will post the new questionnaire.
