User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120121 Firefox/3.0.5
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120121 Firefox/3.0.5
Expected these two characters to render as the same size which they do on Safari (Mac+Win+iPhone), FF on Win, IE7, Chrome and Opera - when zoomed in it appears that the widths of these two characters differ for some reason.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create html that displays the two characters at the same screen position
2. Render
Actual Results:
The two characters render as if they were two different font sizes - their centers don't align
Expected Results:
Would expect them to render with centers aligned because they should be the same size

This WFM on Win Vista (don't have a mac). Seems like it may be a font problem? Can you try with a different font?

The problem does not occur on FF for Win or Safari for Mac - only FF for Mac.
The problem occurs for three different fonts tested including a monospaced font.
I don't think the font choice matters. I have updated the test page at http://hafthor.parsus.com/stars.htm to include the three fonts.

I can confirm this in FF 3.0.5 and yesterday's Minefield and Shiretoko
nightlies on OS X 10.5.6 and 10.4.11. I can also confirm that this
problem doesn't happen on Windows or Linux.
Even though this happens with multiple fonts, I suppose it must
ultimately be a fonts problem ... though I've no idea what kind of
problem.

Bumped into this problem again, with different characters:
data:text/html,∈∉
Should the fallback font selected for individual glyphs vary within a run of text like that? Looks kind of ugly. I have no idea what actual fonts are being selected there (or if I can actually determine that easily). I'm on Win7, with not a particularly exotic set of fonts installed.
