Numerous repeat Console log entries at close of browser. Happpens more than 50% of the time. No URL's involved. I think the results produced by opening preferences or preferences/cookies are probably coincidental, as I have seen Console entries produced simply by opening, then quitting browser alone. Here are reports from three successive occasions:

Summary: Numerous repeat Console entries at exit → Numerous repeat Console entries at exit Camino 2.0b1
In the future, there's no need to copy the content of about:plugins into the bug, and when you're pasting more than a couple of lines of content (console, crash log, etc.), it's best to instead put that info in a text file and attach the text file; that keeps the bug quick to load and easy to read. Thanks!

If you can reproduce this easily, can you also reproduce it with a fresh profile? http://pimpmycamino.com/parts/troubleshoot-camino can help automate testing with a fresh profile.

1/6/09 Tried with a troubleshooting profile, as suggested. Visited no URL's. Only opened Preferences/Cookies (although it is doubtful this is what is triggering the entries), and got all the previously reported entries on the third open and quit.

I would attach an .rtf of the report - it's identical to the others, above- but don't see where to do that.

You'd tell TextEdit to "Make Plain Text" (in the format menu) and save as a .txt file, and then use the "Add an attachment" link in the Attachments table. Since the results are the same, we don't need them again.

Eiichi, are you seeing this, too? Is this (possibly) a 10.4-only bug?

FWIW, I checked our 10.4 tinderboxen and don't see this in either of their console.logs, though they aren't opening preferences in their tests.

Yes, I've seen this log once with Camino/2.0b2pre.
I tried to pinpoint the reproducibility, but I haven't been able to reproduce it reliably yet.
To all,

I know you have a full plate dealing with all the issues of the beta, but I've tried getting some response to this on the Camino Forum and not gotten any response. I don't want to enter this yet, separately, as a bug. Have you noticed that 2.0b1, with Flash blocking enabled, keeps eating around 8% CPU in the background, idling with no open windows, if a Flash window has previously been opened?

Perhaps you'll be able to tell me if this is normal, and if not, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, to deal with it at some point. Thanks for all your work.
No we haven't noticed that, no it's not normal. One issue per bug please though; issues unrelated to this one should be filed as new bugs.
Thanks, Stuart Morgan. Never intended to add this issue here. Just wanted to know if it should be filed at all.

wzjweiner@verizon.net, did you see this Console spew in 2.0a1, or did it just start in 2.0b1?

Since no one else can reproduce this easily yet, and you can reproduce it fairly easily, it might be useful if you could go through nightly builds and see if we can pinpoint where it began.
2.0b1 is the first installation I have tried. Can you explain where and how to get the nightly builds? Are these combo (complete) versions of the browser for each nightly build, i.e. not simply "updates"? Please give more information.

I'm puzzled that this is not easily reproducible. I don't think my computer is anything more than garden variety 10.4.11. I don't have much third party stuff on it. Would you like me to look around to see what might be making me more prone to having this "console spew"? What would I look for? Is it of any importance that I'm running OS 9.2.2 in the same volume as OSX, or that this is an older PPC?
2.0a1 download link:
http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/camino/releases/Camino-2.0a1.dmg
(release date is October 19, 2008).
If you don't experience the issue with that one, then the problem is caused by a change between the 2.0a1 and 2.0b1 builds.
Nightly builds are available from here:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/camino/nightly/2008/
You want those in the '10', '11' or '12' folders. Those are 'full' packages btw.

Tip for finding a regression range: try the build from the 1st of the month, then the 15th of the month, if you notice the issue with the latter, but not with the other build, take a build halfway in between. And so on.
once you have narrowed down, post the dates of the build that works and the one that doesn't.
example: works 20090101, fails 20090102.

I don't think anything on your computer maybe causing this, if you are sure you don't have any input managers installed.
OK. I'll try to help out as much as patience permits- and it looks like, unless I get lucky right away, this may take some time, but first some questions. I have no experience with this: Do I first, completely uninstall the 2.0b1 and any of its related files, then install the 2.0a1? Can I leave the current 2.0b1 and its related files, including the Profile? Can I try out a build by moving it into the troubleshooting app? Do I download one simply by double clicking on it, then move it from the desktop into Applications like a regular installation? Should I create a separate folder for them, if I don't trash them as I try them, and if I did, would that have to be located in Applications?

How do I apply/install the "full package" nightly builds? Install each separately, or over a preceding one, and does their order matter? Can I install an earlier one over a later? And, again, do I trash each one as I go through them?

And specifically, inside the '10', '11', or '12' month folders, you'd want folders ending in '-2.0-M1.9'.

Since you were able to reproduce the console spew before when running under Troubleshoot Camino, the easiest way to test is to download a .dmg, mount the .dmg, and then use Troubleshoot Camino to launch the Camino straight from the disk image. It'll use a fresh profile and you won't have to worry about installing at all. After you test, you can eject the disk image and repeat with the next .dmg file.
That's good. One more thing: can I run Troubleshoot Camino from the desktop or does it have to stay in applications? If I can run it from the desktop then I can just drag a .dmg right into it directly without having to open the HD/Applications.
This was easier than I thought. I was able to produce the Console spew on only second try with the 2.0a1. No need to try any of the nightlies.

Procedure: open Camino in Troubleshoot Camino/preferences/cookies/close cookies/exit browser.

I've attached the log, which looks identical to the others, just in case there's something new in there I don't see.

Not used to these forms. Sorry for the duplicate comments.
wzjweiner@verizon.net, this is just a wild guess, but can you try this build and see if the Console entries stop appearing on quit?

Tentative good news. Just tried that Nightly twenty times in a row. It never produced the Console spew on exit. Will try again later.
That's good news!

I'm going to go ahead and confirm this (which I probably should have done before based on sheer weight of evidence and Eiichi's confirmation of seeing it sometimes) for good housekeeping now that we know the likely cause/fix.

Well, if that did it, then glad to hear it and pleased to know I had a small part in this. I know there's still a lot of work yet, but do you have any very rough idea on when the general release might ship?
I'll take no reply as indicating that you can't answer that now.
FIXED by the 1.9.0-checkin for bug 471948 (bug 471948 comment 30).

If you download tomorrow's nightly build (which should appear tomorrow in http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/camino/nightly/2009-02-04-00-2.0-M1.9/ ), these Console messages should be gone. If they persist with that build, please let us know.

Great news.

I'll be testing this soon. If it appears to be OK, can I use this nightly as my default Camino browser after uninstalling the original 2.0b1? In other words, will a nightly have, at least, the same functionality as the original beta? Could there be any drawbacks or negatives with a nightly? Your recommendations?

Yes.

Yes.

Nightlies come hot off the build systems, so it's always possible there's some problem in there that no-one foresaw when reviewing patches. 2.0b1, by contrast, was used and tested for a week before release, so we were more comfortable that there were no serious problems in it.

That said, the state of the tree right now is such that risks of serious problems are low, and in all likelihood you can continue using the nightly without problems (and if you encounter something, you can always go back to 2.0b1).

HI Smokey and everyone else who worked on this bug,

I've been using the 2.0b2 pre as my Camino browser and it does, indeed, look like the Console spew issue is cleared up. Thanks.
