There is no export to IE function, only importing bookmarks is done after the initial startup
You have to export the Bookmarks as HTML and import them in IE.
Exporting directly to IE is wontfix (bug 274245).
marking wfm because exporting as HTML is working fine

I was aware that you can only export bookmarks as HTML. I use Organize and select Import and Export, then export HTML, and push save. However, nothing is saved. I use Firefox 4.0.5.

There is no 4.0.5, i think you mean 3.0.5.
You initial bug description is bad, you should explain what isn't working.
Importing to IE doesn't matter in this case, the exporting to html isn't working.
Can you please check if you get the same error message in Tools/Error Console as the reporter in bug 457441 if you try to export the file ?
In that case i will mark it as duplicate of bug 457441.
That bug is fixed in the coming Firefox3.1 which will be released soon.

I checked bug 457441 and what I am experiencing is not the same. When I select Export Bookmarks, everything seems to go well, there is no error message, and no file ever appears.

The error message is not coming on screen, it's in Tools/Error Console.
Can you try a nightly build which contains the fix for bug 457441 and others ?

I ran the Export Bookmarks and found this error in the Tools/Error Console.
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x804b000a (NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI) [nsIPlacesImportExportService.exportHTMLToFile]" nsresult: "0x804b000a (NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://browser/content/places/places.js :: PO_exportBookmarks :: line 381" data: no]
Yes, I will try the build you suggested.

I ran the build and got Shiretoko and Exported Bookmarks and it ran just fine. Imported the bookmarks into Internet Explorer and it too worked fine.
Thanks so much for your time and patience. I now know to look in the Tools/Error Console first when I have a problem.
A question: What do I do with Shiretoko? Just keep running it?
Regards,
Fred

atm Shiretoko is quite near beta3, should be stable enough (notice hwv it's still a beta!) so you could keep running it till Firefox 3.1 beta 3 comes out, and then go for it, beta 3 should then directly update to RC and final. it's up to you if you feel to run on a beta.
thanks for your testing.

I may have to keep using Firefox as it accepts Roboform which contains all my encrypted usernames and passwords to web sites. However, I will pursue the issue further. Shiretoko says it does not accept Roboform.
Again, thanks.

I think roboform will support Firefox3.1 when it's a final version.
