We want to ship Firefox 3.1 a good list of search engines for Mongolian.

We're going to work towards this in three phases. First, the localization team and Stas (Stas Malolepszy) will look at the market for the language and come up with a good set of search providers. Nagi, we'll need your input on this, the guidelines for making recommendations are on http://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox_web_services_guidelines.

For en-US, we currently use this set, to which we can fall back in the case of lacking localized alternatives:
Google, Yahoo, Amazon, Answers, CC, eBay, Wikipedia

For 3.0.x, we currently ship with Mongolian Wikipedia (as per bug 425120). We'd like to see if there are any other search engines worth shipping Mongolian Firefox with.

After we decided on a particular search engine, Stas will contact the owner and ask for permission, and for specifics like proper search flags. undefined, we'll likely need your help to at least get the contact information.

Once we have a specification on what the searchengines for Mongolian should look like, the localization team and Stas will work on an implementation on that. This should happen by the localization team creating and attaching patches for the desired changes, and requesting review from Stas. After a successful review, the localization team will land them.

Please don't commit any modifications in l10n/mn/browser/searchplugins to the cvs repository without a patch reviewed by Stas, Axel or someone else appointed by Stas or SethB. The data here is sensitive to users and our search partners, thus the extra care here.
Hi Nagi,
It's been some time since we filed this bug. Have you had a chance to do any initial research on search providers that mn users might prefer in their official version of Firefox? If so, please feel free to make the suggestions here. We are relying on you for ideas since you would be familiar with the most appropriate providers for end users.

Please send us your ideas. Hope to hear from you soon.

I'm going to land this to enable the following 3 search engines in Mongolian beta builds: Google, Creative Commons and Wikipedia (mn).

Not closing this bug, as we still need to choose other search engines. I just want to have the minimal set of default plugins ready for today's beta4 deadline.

[checked in] Patch (google, wikipedia (mn), creativecommons)

Landed on 1.9.1: http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/l10n-mozilla-1.9.1/mn/rev/ce1bb67b0601

Let's continue to work on the rest of the list in this bug.

The minimum set for the Mongolian version of Firefox now contains Creative Commons, Google, and Wikipedia-mn. But, we should complete this list to have three more, if possible.

As mentioned in the wiki page above, we like to have search providers in three areas. Here is our current inventory:

* Generic search -- Google and ?
* e-Commerce search -- Please provide 2
* Specific-interest search -- Creative Commons and Wikipedia-mn

Nagi, do you have any other recommendations for this bug? We'd like to close this out as we approach the release of Firefox 3.5.

Hi sethb and stas?

sorry for the delay.

I've found very few sites. They are not stable and reliable (better not use). So I would recommend following:

* Generic search -- Google-mn
* e-Commerce search -- ( Default search engines of en-US )
* Specific-interest search -- Wikipedia-mn and Creative Commons
Resolving WONTFIX, we'll start with a new set of bugs one we have Mongolian back on track.
