Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090217 Calendar/1.0pre On startup, icon in statusbar shows offline mode - but Sunbird updates get detected, so it is online.
Works fine for me using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090219 Calendar/1.0pre (BuildID: 20090219061922). After startup the icon and tooltip shows online mode.
I detected that I can't switch it online (problem exists at least for some days, thought I could in the past).
