I noticed this today when running with Thunderbird 3 b2:
STR:
1.) Set a folders view to "Grouped by Sort" (View->Sort By-> Grouped by Sort)
2.) Notice the UI elements draw in the tree view for the new sort value.
3.) Set a folders view to "Unthreaded" (View->Sort By->Unthreaded)
4.) Notice that the inline rows that contain the "Grouped by sort" information are still in line.
5.) Select another folder, then go back to the folder that the views where changed on - The "Grouped by Sort" UI elements are now gone.
