User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.7) Gecko/2009021910 Firefox/3.0.7
Build Identifier: Thunderbird Ver. 2.0.0.19
This happens when the profile being used is located different computer than the one that the Tbird client is running. If there as a temporary network outage and the profile becomes unreachable, Windows XP rightly reports a "Delayed write" error. However when the network connection is restored, the error condition is not cleared, and Tbird does not detect the error condition & try to re-establish connection to the remote profile file handles. Tbird can only be closed with out saving any information generated after the teh disconnection occurred.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start Tbird using a profile located on a server on the network.
2. Disconnect the client computer network cable for 5 min.
3. then re-connect network cable
Actual Results:
Trying to exit Tbird, generates the "delayed write" error report data will be lost.
Expected Results:
Tbird should have detected error condition, then tried to renew file handles before trying to save the new data. Also if it should be necessary to shut down Tbird before the network connection can be re-established, maybe save the data changes locally to be completed the next time Tbird starts.

prosten, do you still see this issue?
yes, sadly, the situation does not seem to have changed.
Current Version: 3.1.10
When the connection to the remote profile is lost is it possible to close Thunderbird normally or must be Thunderbird forced, i.e. killed to recover?
Furthermore, is the Network-Share useable afterwards or must it remounted. See bug 1092593.
