Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090223 Lightning/1.0pre Thunderbird/3.0b2
In 3.0b2 you can dismiss calendar reminders but they only snooze for a short time. Snooze works as expected but dismiss does not perform as expected. To keep the reminder from reappearing you have to modify the appointment itself and set the reminder to none.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Add appointment with reminder
2.calendar prompts to ask whether to dismiss or snooze
3.press dismiss
4. appointment reminder reappears after a short time (i.e.5 min)
Actual Results:
appointment reminder came back
Expected Results:
appoint reminder should have been told not to reappear
Summary: Calendar Reminders Dismiss inly temporary → Calendar Reminders Dismiss only temporary

What kind of calendar do you use? Local or remote? ICS, CalDAV, WCAP, GData? Have you enabled the experimental cache feature?
Both calendars I use are remote gmail calendars. I have not tested this issue with local calendars as I don't have any. I also do not have the experimental cache enabled.

With "remote gmail calendars" you probably mean Google Calendar? Do you access it via CalDAV protocol or via Provider for Google Calendar extension?
Version: unspecified → Trunk
You are correct. Just couldn't type all of that on my iphone and drive at the same time.
I access the calendars via the Provider for Google calendar extension 0.6pre. CalDAV didn't give me the write function.
As a side note there are a couple of things going on as I test different things to see what is going on. 1. when you right click and select properties, no matter which one you right click, it always returns the calendar on the bottom. 2. When you change the location of the calendar to http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/username@gmail.com/events it fails. put when you put http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/username@gmail.com/private-a4e7lkdsfj23049rweriuweoiowier3/basic.ics then it works as expected. Those are purely secondary to the issue but might throw some light on things. I will keep messing around and see what I find.

Bug 489992 looks like a dupe of this for a specific implementation. This bug implies the issue is more widely spread.
I can confirm it still happens on the latest TBird and Lightning nightlies.
I can confirm this as well:
TB 2.0.0.22,
Lightning 0.9
LINUX (opensuse 11.1)
and GCALDaemon (but happens with Google Provider, too)
and remote network calendar (Google), is read/write (can edit and add events)
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Add appointment with reminder
2.calendar prompts to ask whether to dismiss or snooze
3.press dismiss
4. appointment reminder reappears after a short time (i.e.15 min, time span is exactly the reload interval), can also be triggered by manually right-click on calendar and select "reload" - reminder appears again
Expected Results:
appoint reminder should have been told not to reappear
What I could do was open the event and remove the reminder and save it back (which is then also propagated the the remote calendar).
Analysis: It seems the fact that you click on "dismiss" does not write the disable or remove of the reminder in the event (as it should).
And with the next reload/sync of the calendar the reminder pops up again.
IMHO, there seems to be a write problem when clicking "dismiss".

I can confirm this on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4pre) Gecko/20091005 Lightning/1.0pre Shredder/3.0pre
That's Windows Vista x64, TB 3 (nightly from a few days after TB 3b4) and Lightning 1.0 pre and Provider for Google Calendar 0.6 pre
Dismissing events only removes them from my alert box until a calendar re-load. Its been going on for a few weeks, at least.

And Bug 490131 may be a dupe of this - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=490131

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100608 Lightning/1.0b2pre Thunderbird/3.1
I can confirm this issue and that it is fixed by installing the nightly lightning.xpi 19-Jul-2010 05:14 AND the gdataprovider.xpi 19-Jul-2010 05:14
Perhaps it was the gdataprovider that did it as it detected readonly calendar usage. No wonder I could not dismiss the reminder via lightning.
