User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.0.8) Gecko/2009032609 Firefox/3.0.8 GTB5 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Build Identifier: 3.0b3pre
Select any custom view from the View drop-down menu on the toolbar. The list will appear on the left of the Thunderbird main window where it should. However, it does not disappear and remains there obscuring the top of the left pane and making access to menus impossible. Only a restart makes it go away. This also occurs in b2 builds as of 29 March.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Add the View combobox to the toolbar.
2.Select from the dropdown list either something already there or a new custom view.
3.A list of defaults and your previous custom views will appear and remains permanently in the display until a restart.
Actual Results:
See 3 above.
Expected Results:
The list should go away after you choose something.

do you all see this with recent nightly? if you do maybe it's 64 bit only, because I don't see it on 32 bit vista with 2009-05-21 build

Hello,
I've just downloaded the 2009-05-25 nightly and the bug is still there on Vista 64.

Hello,
Quick update on the latest nightly. The menu now appears and functions in both the correct place, and also still in the top left corner of Thunderbird.

This bug still exists in 3.0b3pre. If you click on the dropdown views menu in the toolbar, a list of your tags will now appear. It obscures and prevents access to the leftmost menus because it does not go away. You must restart Thunderbird in order to be able to access the menus again. Please indicate what proof of this bug you require, screen shots, etc. This is NOT resolved.

Can you give the build ID where you see this ?

It occurs in every nightly build up to and including 17 June 09. Clicking on the View button in the toolbar causes the bug. The contents of the drop-down depend upon which custom or preset view you choose. The menu never goes away so Thunderbird must be restarted in order to access the menus again.

Cary - thanks for answering - are you running extension on your thunderbird ? what happens if you start thunderbird in safe-mode ?

I just checked in order to answer your question. The problem is identical in Safe Mode. I am not running any extensions whatsoever. I didn't have any that were compatible with Thunderbird Beta. I uninstalled all of them and will only check for updates when 3.0 is officially released.
My environment is Vista-x64 Ultimate/SP2, 8GB RAM, 512MB Nvidia video, 1 TB total disk space. I stopped all running applications in order to verify that the display anomaly is not caused by any of them.

As of last night's build the bug is gone! Gecko/20090619 Shredder/3.0b3pre. I downloaded from the ftp folder 19-Jun-2009 08:33. I don't see the display glitch anymore.

I run 3.0b3pre 20090621 on vista 32-bit and I still have this glitch. If it is the same. When I in the main toolbar use the view component to show what to view in the current folder I get the tags and custom views sub menu in the top left corner of the main toolbar. The difference as I see now is that now it only happens when I open these menus the first time. I have always been able to remove the glitch by choosing customize on the main toolbar. But it always come back before. But not now in the release I use.

My copy is behaving in the same manner as Jens'. The bug appears the first time, but is okay after 'customising' the tool bar.

I'm the one who originally filed the bug. it is an odd one indeed because I can't reproduce it anymore but others can. When it first appeared it didn't matter if I chose a custom view or not. Just clicking the View drop-down triggered it and forced me to restart Thunderbird to regain access to the leftmost menus. It went away for me with 3.0b3pre 20090619. 20090622 doesn't show the bug either. Maybe there is more than just Thunderbird involved such as video driver, screen mode, conflicts with other programs, etc.?

I've found a second way of making the menus appear in the top left-hand corner of the screen. To do so you need the folder pane to be in Smart Folders. Expand the Inbox smart folder to reveal the inboxes for each account. Select any inboxes except the top one, then select the top inbox. On my machine this makes the custom views menu (people I know, recent mail, last 5 days, etc.) appear in the top left of the screen. The actual view drop down box on the tool bar says '0', where it normally says 'All' by default.

Still the same behavior as I reported last time in this version
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1pre) Gecko/20090625 Shredder/3.0b3pre
Another thing about the view control/menu in the mail toolbar is that the forground and background color of different menu items differ. The top two, all and unread, is white text on light blue background when they are highlighted. The last two, save and customize, is white text on dark blue background. And the two in between, tags and custom view, is black text on dark blue background.
I am using standard theme and I have done no customization, except filters visible in the custom view for a folder.

For me it is still there. I still get the tags and custom view submenus in the upper left. And if I then do custom on the mail toolbar it works. Until I restart.

And I still have this problem. So I would not say, "WORKSFORME".

I agree. It worked for me just one time with one build. I should have checked more carefully. Then I would have observed exactly under which conditions it seemed to work. I have two machines and two different versions of Vista-x64. it doesn't work correctly on either of them.

It's been working for me quite a while now on Vista 64, although the menu styling is still inconsistent. I did find that some daily builds did mess up some files in my profile from time to time. Maybe you should see if you get the error on a fresh profile if you haven't already done so.
Comment 27•16 years ago

I completely removed my profile and created a new one. No difference. Still get the menu in the upper left.
I am running this on a Lenovo X200 Tablet with Vista Professional 32bit. I also have Firefox 3.5.2 on the machine.
I guess, another try is to remove both FF and TB and clear all cache/profile and re-install. I have no time for that today. But I will try as soon as possible.

This morning I did an uninstall of TB and made sure the directory was deleted. And then I downloaded the TB3b4pre and installed. And still I get the same thing.
OK, I run with old profile, and I did not uninstall FF. I have no plugins in TB.
BTW: http://www.mozilla.org/developer/ link to the wrong nightly build, so you only get an error.

A couple of days ago, I do not know exactly which update the tool bar changed for me. Most visible is a bigger search field. After this my problem with the view field seem to have gone away. So, maybe something has happened here.
Now I am running
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4pre) Gecko/20090914 Shredder/3.0b4pre
and it is still working.
BTW: about the same time I guess FF was upgraded to 3.5.3
