Details

With the "trimonsave" setting on, trailing space will be cleaned up every time a save operation occurs.

Tie into:

bespin.publish("editor:savefile:before", { filename: filename });

and call "trim". Make sure the race condition doesn't mean that the trim happens potentially after the save.
