Reproducible: Always Expected Results: Return to a 'What's new?' or 'Thunderbird Start Page' in the message area.

I'm not sure what you mean by "focused e-mail account tab" One thing is for sure, if you only have a single tab opened, you can't close it. Please give the exact steps you used to get into the problematic situation.

Joe: I identified it as your last mentioned notice. With a single tab open it can not be closed.
