Yeah, the creators of Thunderbird do.  But they haven't done it yet :-)

This feature requires a MAPI interface.  Thunderbird hasn't got one
(yet...).  They have been promising it for years...

So "No" is your answer.  It's not possible.

Expected Results:  
should send the attachment to thunderbird and a blank email open but instead the send mail is greyed out in Word for Mac.

I'd be very surprised if bug 309708 didn't fix this - not a mapi interface that is required, just a few mac interfaces. Ideas on the bug.

So would I but WHEN will it be actually fixed rather than proposed or marked as duplicate????
