New message counts in previous verisons have colored the folder name blue if you have new messages and you've not looked at the folder yet. The folder turns black/bold if you've peeked in the folder and have left messages unread. The count of new messages in () after the folder name shows unread messages. At least thats the behavior I expect. What I'm seeing is something different.

My Local Folders In box currently has 6 unread messages. Through out the day, its read 6, 2, 3 and 0. I've had another folder that I automatically filter messages to, not show any new messages, but I opened the folder and found 5 new messages. I've seen blue turn black when I've never opened the folder too.

Also the message count in the dock seems to not always be right.

I picked up a nightly a couple of weeks ago, but Shredder seems to be trying to update itself every day, so I'm not sure if its fetching its own nightlies and installing them or I'm seeing another bug and I actually have an older version

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. get new mail
2.
3.

Expected Results:
show the right message counts.
Rob can you have a look at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/showdependencytree.cgi?id=438257&hide_resolved=1 and see if your bug is not already in the bugs on that list ?

It is similar to bug #261201 but in other ways different. I'm seeing multiple problems, some are addressed above, some I believe to be unique.

I think my main bug is specifically different in that the count was changing between values even though the number of unread messages wasn't changing. Now this could be related to fetching new messages and filtering them to other boxes, spam, filters, etc. So lets say I had three unread messages in my IN box and POP fetches three spam messages, perhaps it was setting the count to 6 one time and another time, it saw the 3 unread and set it to 3 and another time it decided there were no new messages. It was rather random.

A second issue was filtering new mail from a POP server to a folder and the folder not indicating it had new messages. (No blue or bold).

My inbox on Local Folders will frequently show a blue "Inbox" text but not show a message count, not even parentheses.

Reporter,

do you still see this problem when using a current version of thunderbird?

And if you do not, please close bug report by changing resolution to worksforme
