Opening a bookmark folder with a large number of bookmarks with non-empty Vist Dates (Restoring a json file of bookmarks isn't enough) sorting by Visit Date and visiting the site causes firefox to slow to freeze. Unsure if it actually hangs or just takes so long I give up. Given that it doesn't happen with a mere JSON bookmark backup/restore I have not tested this case on a clean profile.

Note the same thing happens even with empty Visit Dates when the folder opened is a tag with a great many entries sorted by Visit Date. I have tested this with a clean profile. This issue may be related to Bug 497055.

---

I should remark that this makes it virtually impossible for someone like me to use tags to say return to blog posts I've commented on recently (and so tagged) using the tagging system.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
First Version:

1. Put a very large number of bookmarks into the Unsorted Bookmark Folder. Make sure they have Visit Dates.
2. Add the Visit Date column and sort on it so the recently visited bookmarks are on top.
3. Leaving bookmark manager open Double click on one of these bookmarks (might need to be something besides most recent one).
---

Tag Version

1. On clean profile restore JSON bookmark backup with a very large number of bookmarks under some tag (my test had 324).
2. Open Organize Bookmarks and select tag. After long delay as in Bug 497055 see list of bookmarks with that tag.
3. Sort on Visit Date (most recent on top?)
4. Double click one of the bookmarks
Actual Results:
Firefox Pauses/Freezes (probably just takes super long time) after loading the bookmarked page.

Expected Results:
Firefox should remain responsive even with bookmark manager open and sorted on visit date.

While it would be great to speed up the underlying update of the underlying search even if this isn't done merely having the bookmark organizer open and sorted on visit date shouldn't interfere with browsing even if the bookmark organizer takes a long time to update.
Version: unspecified → 3.5 Branch
this is due to the Library being open and updating the result. same as bug 494082, so i'll add a note there

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
