Build Identifier: Version: 2.0.0.21 (20090302)
Using Mac Thunderbird 2 to receive my IMAP Gmail.
If an email contains Chinese with HTML format (different color fonts) and the view message body as "Original HTML" is selected, the Chinese are not readable.
This happens only on Mac thunderbird 2. I also install Thunderbird 2 in my PC and all the setting & encoding are identical with my Mac but Chinese in Thunderbird PC are readable.
Reproducible: Always
I'm using default setting on both Mac or PC Thunderbird 2 but only Mac Thunderbird has this problem.
I have posted my problem in a Chinese forum. If you have ppl that can read Chinese, please visit this site:

Reporter, this works for me in Mac latest nightly Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1pre) Gecko/20090615 Lightning/1.0pre Shredder/3.0b3pre
Try viewing the attached Chinese HTML testcase in the latest nightly and see if you can reproduce the problem.
Simplified Chinese is readable but the problem that I have encounter is Traditional Chinese.
Do you also test it?
I'm sorry that I didn't appoint this out in the beginning.

Yes, Traditional Chinese works too, see if you can view the 2nd testcase (with Traditional Chinese characters with HTML formatting).
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1pre) Gecko/20090615 Lightning/1.0pre Shredder/3.0b3pre
Please see the attachment in commonet #5
The attached email contains the Traditional Chinese that is not readable in Thunderbird 2 but is readable in Apple Mail application.

I see the problem in Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 Mac - this bug thus is present only on 2.0.0.x series but has been fixed in the trunk builds.

You can try the build here (en_US):
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/2009-06-15-02-comm-1.9.1/
That's a trunk build - do back up your data as well.

OK~ Thx~~~ I noticed that there are 2 files. I only need to download the .dmg rite?
Before I install it, do I need to uninstall the old thunderbird & the profile along with it? Or I can just install and overwrite it?

Yes.

Please be sure to backup your data first in case something goes wrong. You can just install and then overwrite and use your original profile. Also, be wary of using the same profile on TB2 _after_ the nightly was run using that profile.
I would suggest to backup your profile, test the nightly with a new profile just to be safe, in case it's too high a risk for you.

However, plz see the attached email for your reference. It's the only email so far that I cannot read.

Works for me too using the nightly - just that this time there's attachments in the email so it might take a little longer to load.
Anyway, this is now confirmed to be an issue in 2.0.0.x but is fixed in the trunk.

Yes, Shredder is the name of Thunderbird nightlies. I just posted a screenshot that shows it working properly in comment #17.
Please move the discussion about your last testcase to the mozilla.support.thunderbird newsgroups, Bugzilla is not the place for this.

That's weird!!! Which encoding do you use? Or do you have install any additional add-on?
How do I move my last testcase to the ozilla.support.thunderbird newsgroups?

I used Big5 encoding. GB2312 works too.
