I check in the widget code for bug 41305 so it will now send correct charcode for key press if people hit control d (r=jfrancis). Open this bug and assign to sfraser so he can add new keybinding for control key on Mac.
Um, what control key binding do we need on Mac? I don't understand.
Frank said that you and he looked at Mac 4.x and discovered that ^D did forward-delete-character. Kathy had filed a bug specifically mentioning ^D, so maybe she was missing it (cc'ing her even though she shouldn't be reading bugzilla mail now :-).
I think 4.x simply passed control-char combinations onto the underlying native text widgets, which means that various control chars will have wacky effects (^H = backspace, ^D = forward delete etc). I don't think we need to emulate all of these.

Reopening -- this is trivial (just two lines of XBL, which are already written for Unix), so why not support them if other Mac apps do?
I'll do it if Simon doesn't want to. In fact, Windows supported these bindings too, so I may just move them out of Unix into the XP bindings.
Beth: I suggest marking this +, M18, p4. It's very easy.
akk -- setting to +, but get this done as quickly as you can
