Outlook Express includes a feature where pressing CTRL+H filters the current view so that only threads containing at least one own message are displayed. This is useful to see if someone replied to one's message in mailing lists or news groups.

Useful filters would be
 "threads with my own messages in it"
 "threads with replies to my own messages"
 "threads with UNREAD replies to my own messages"
The latter two would not only demand to filter by thread, but also to take into account the thread structure itself.

This feature could maybe go hand-in-hand a feature allowing to search for threads where certain messages match the given criteria. In addition to extending the existing search function to return whole threads, this might require a new way to enter search conditions: It might help to be able to distinguish "threads that contain at least one mail which ist unread AND from person x" and "threads that contain at least one mail which is unread AND at least one mail which is from person x".

Or you can set up a filter to watch threads you post to, then only view watched threads with unread.
