Instead of having 4 buttons: back, forward, reload, and stop. There should be 3 buttons: back, forward, and reload/stop. When you're reloading a page, the button will become a stop button and when you're not reloading a page, it will be a reload button. You're not going to use the stop button if the page is complete.

updating component and setting defualt owner. I don't think this is a good idea. I like my 4 buttons ;)

What happens when you're in a frameset, and you reload a frame? Then your only option is Stop (to stop the loading of the page in that specific frame), but you might conceivably want to reload the entire frameset page at that point. I also don't think this is a good idea (for UI reasons) to have one button consistently remain in the same position but have two different functions depending on the condition. It is easier (IMHO) to conceive what actions you can do when something is visually disabled and something else is visually enabled.

Nah. I had the same idea a couple of years ago, but nixed it when I realized that you might try to stop the loading of a large page just as it was in fact finishing -- with the result that you would actually reload it, when you meant to stop it.

I don't think we should do this either. Saving space on the toolbar is a valuable idea, but changing a button between two functions has usability issues. Closing bug.

Hi, I'm sorry to reopen this after 6 years. But isn't it possible to make it a user choice to use one or two button? Some users want the stop/reload in one button. Others don't. Isn't it possible to satisfy both? Safari managed it to make it as one button. I'm really enjoying Camino, but I would like to have just one stop/reload button. Thanx.

Come on already fix this. Who wants two separate buttons taking up space on the tool bar, wasting space, when it can be combined into one. Safari already does this and Firefox needs to do this as well.

Opera has one button for the two functions as well.
