We've had some changes to RelEng infrastructure, and to makefiles, which are not tested through the usual nightly build processes. This bug is to track doing fake releases on staging, before we do real releases. 

(not doing this bit us in 3.5.2)

Well, we started these releases already, so this bug should probably track test runs for 3.5.4/3.0.15 now.

Moving closed Future bugs into Release Engineering in preparation for removing the Future component.
