Please buy, power and rack additional 50 mac minis for RelEng infrastructure. Ideally if we can buy this specific version (1.83ghz CPU) http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB138LL/A?mco=MjE0NDk5Mw then we can use them for build/unittest and also for talos if needed. However, as apple has discontinued the 1.83ghz model, that could be tricky. If this is not possible, let us know, and we'll see if we can use the newer models or not.
This isn't in my hardware budget - Justin, ack? Also not sure where we're going to put these. Power constrained on MPT 16th floor, 14th is all 208V. Either relocate more servers from 16 to 14 or re-provision power on the 14th. These could also go at Castro but I don't think that site's going to scale. What's your time frame?

I need to understand why we need these, what metrics we are using and what the total cost will be - let's get together with john tomorrow. I'd like to make sure shaver is OK with the expense vs clustering of check-ins.

no - john was going to get this done before he left, as I only want to do a large purchase once per 6 months, and be sure it is actually going to solve the issue. We are blocked on these details from John...

We are blocked on these details from John... justin and I continue to figure out the numbers by email. The problem is still how best to measure this. For now, our crude waittimes emails is one of the better ways of doing this. catlee/bhearsum: can you please add mrz, justin, phong to all the wait-times emails, including for try server and talos? (Right now, they are only getting the p-m, p-m02 emails, so dont see the full story).

power infra on order.
Minis are here. The new ones won't work with anything less than OSX 10.5.8. Need a ref image for that. We can get started on the Linux/Windows ones. How many of each?
Lets do 20 each of xp, vista, 10.5, linux, linux64. However, hold off on using refimages just yet, I need to tweak the user accounts in the ref images before you start. I'll update this bug later today when done. Note: The naming convention is slightly changed: these machines should be called "rev3" machines, use a 3 digit number and will be in b.m.o. For example: talos-rev3-linux001.build.mozilla.org
power and switching should be here next tuesday. the shelving hasn't yet shipped, working on getting an eta.
fyi, the windows talos ref images blue screens on boot and then reboots. Happens too quick to see what the error is. Maybe enough hardware has changed that Windows is confused?
i am pretty sure that it is "STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE" the chipset changed from Intel 945? to a Nvidia Geforce 9400M IGP which means that there is a different sata controller. We could either do a repair install of windows or start from scratch. There is also a possibility of installing the new controller driver and enabling it in the registry. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976 explains how to do it for enabling an AHCI controller.
All power CDUs and network hardware is in. Missing Belkin power strips & shelving.
CDUs are mounted and online @ 10.250.1.113.
Dear Matthew, The order will ship 1.7.10 out to you in CA, you should see it 1.14.10. I hope this answered your questions please let me know if there is anything else that OWC can do for you.

For example: > talos-rev3-linux001.build.mozilla.org This scheme won't work for Windows machines. We're limited to a 15 char name, because OPSI uses the NETBIOS name to refer to machines. We'll need to do something else for Windows, at least. Maybe talos-r3-vs01/talos-r3-xp01?

ftr, as there are no more 1.83ghz minis available anymore, here's the spec of the new minis we just bought: * 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo * 2GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x1GB * 160GB Serial ATA Drive * SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW) * User's Guide (English) * Accessory kit

Any ETA on more shelves? We could only rack 80 of the 100 before we ran out of shelves. Also would be nice to move minis from QA lab and prepare for next batch of minis.
Impossible. I bought 25 shelves. The four post rack has 20 shelves in it and the two post will have the remaining 5. That's room for 100. Let's touch bases Monday and figure out where the disconnect is. Is the next set of 100 minis on order?

No and they won't be until the current 100 are in production, old 100+ are repurosed and we see how load is. Should not block on this order.
First batch of 100 is up & done (more or less). Have some cleanup to do but thats outside this bug.
