Details

The awesomescreen (navigation screen) takes longer than would be ideal to come up.  This has implications for using it as a start page, but is also just generally sub-optimal.

agreed, in general, but this is a pretty specific problem and needs to be fixed for 1.0

this is a lot faster than it used to be
