User-Agent: Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.9.1.1) Gecko/20090715 Thunderbird/3.0b3 When enabling "mailnews.sendInBackground --> true" the mail is sent in the background as expected. I was just wondering why I can see a popup for a very short moment while sending. I investigated, that this is the "send progress popup" which is displayed for about 0.5 seconds. Setting "mailnews.show_send_progress --> false" hides it completely and solves this "problem". It's just an optical improvement, but would be nice if "mailnews.show_send_progress" would be set to FALSE automatically AS SOON AS "mailnews.sendInBackground" is set to TRUE. Reproducible: Always

This isn't the send progress dialog, it is the save to outbox dialog. I'm not sure there is much we can do about this, short of showing the progress on the status bar instead.
Component: Preferences → Message Compose Window
QA Contact: preferences → message-compose
Summary: "Send in background" shows the "send progress popup" for a short moment → "Send in background" shows the "save to outbox popup" for a short moment
I am wondering if this is really the "save to outbox dialog", because "mailnews.show_send_progress --> false" was the solution for not showing it anymore. After some attempts I was able make a screenshot of that dialog. It's an empty box (white). Only its header "Nachricht senden" ("send message") is visible. So really seems to be the "send progress" - at least it looks exactly the same. However, if it is the "save to outbox dialog", would be nice to have it in the statusbar instead.
Update: Hiding the "send progress popup" ("mailnews.show_send_progress --> false") leads into a new problem: When sending failes (for whatever reason and the compose window doesn't close and sends and sends and sends....), there will be no chance to interrupt (cancel) the send process anymore, since the CANCEL button is part of the "send progress popup". Therefore we should better leave it as it is and not hide the "send progress popup" by default when having set "mailnews.sendInBackground --> true". -- REMARK: Just to make my original bug report more precise: The "send progress popup" comes up for about 0.5 seconds AFTER the compose window has disappeared. What is a little bit curious. I would expect the send progress popup to disappear together with the compose window.

Any idea if this still happens? (I've never seen it)

I can still see it for about 0.3 seconds after the compose window has closed. But it doesn't bother me.
