My mail host bounces emails with .eml attachments in case they contain viruses. Apparently this is the default behaviour with cpanel hosting and ISTR seeing some mention of blocking .eml in exim. I've been told that MS mail clients are vulnerable to viruses hidden in .eml files because they open all attachments within them without warning and that at least one common virus, Win32:Nimda, exploits this, so my mail host refuses to change its policy.
The upshot is that several of my friends can't forward emails to me because they're not clued up enough to know that they need to change Thunderbird's forwarding setting, so please could you change the default setting for forwarding to inline.
Reproducible: Always
Thunderbird 3.0 will provide an option to omit the ".eml" being added to the subject for use as the attachment name, per bug 380354. Also, the forward-mode
default has been changed to inline per bug 230448. Since the latter is your primary request, I'm marking your report as a duplicate of that bug.
