When I select any of the items of menu "View:Toolbars:", the correct action
happens but is not reflected in the menu.
Here's what's for sure : there is never more than one menu item checked at once.
But i give up trying to figure out how this thing works.

Reproduce these steps a few times if you want to go crazy :-)
1. Look at the state of the menu "View:Toolbars:"
2. Select any of its menu items
3. Look again at its state

I think there are some code wrong with menu states.
Is this really a separate problem from bug 11774?  Seems like there may be a
common cause, and one of these could be a dup.

The toolbar toggling seems to work fine on Windows.
By the description, it sounds to me like the Mac menuitems are the behaving 
like "radio buttons", where only one item in the group shows the check,
instead of "checkmarks", where the toggling of each item is independent of all
others. There are 2 separate "type" values for the XUL menuitem to differentiate
this: "checkbox" and "radio"
