RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 491283

People

(Reporter: bingotheclowno, Unassigned)

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Build Identifier: 2.0.0.23

I have two email addresses set up.One goes to local folders, one to its own folder. After a fresh Thunderbird start, when I click on the Inbox of the secondary email address, Thunderbird freezes for a long while (30-40s) while reading the disk.Using ntfilemon (sysinternals.com) I determined it loads all the fonts available in %systemroot%\Fonts, which in my case are around 8k files.
My system isn't the fastest system around, but not the opposite either.
Don't know if this is normal and expected behavior.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start thunderbird (automatically connects to get new mail)
2.Click on the Inbox of the alternate email address (the one that isn't stored under local folders)
3.Thunderbird is unresponsive and causes a lot of disk usage while loading all the fonts.
See bug 491283, although that speaks about a startup problem. Apparently, T-bird reads the font a little later, when the first inbox is opened. Anyway, bug 491283 is supposed to give some kind of performance boost (with a font cache or something similar).

See also bug 517045, even though that only speaks about the Mac, but it will affect font initialisation. And it's ready to be checked in.
