Hi Steven As mentioned in the related Bug 521531, the agency has sent over the designs for the First Run and What's New pages. I'm going to file a separate bug for each, even though they share much of the design elements. We have two iterations of the design, with a different presentation of the Personas gallery for purposes of A/B testing. * One version has a simple thumbnail gallery * The other includes the same thumbnails, though re-sized, with a chrome mockup for a more direct way of communicating what the feature is about. The copy still needs to be massaged and slightly tweaked. But we're ready to start building this, with the goal of handing off for QA / L10n on Oct 15th, if not sooner. Part of my goal was to pull all the content above the fold. But I think we're a few pixels short of that :) As you're laying out the design... *if* you are able to pull the content above the fold, that would be great. Otherwise, no worries. Files can be downloaded here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/r5a151 I'll also send them via email just in case. Source files are too big to attach, but I have attached the screenshots for reference. Thanks! ~T

As mentioned in Bug 521531, I have the revised copy (attached), and may be making a slight change to the gallery presentation as well with a directional graphic, or arrow, that the agency will be providing.

This page is basically setup in r53531. You can preview here: Original variation: https://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6/whatsnew/ 2nd variation: https://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6/whatsnew/?variation=2

(In reply to comment #5) > This page is basically setup in r53531. You can preview here: Looks like you checked in to the 3.6 branch, which means those links should be: https://www-3.6.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6/whatsnew https://www-3.6.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6/whatsnew/?variation=2 Also, note to QA, the Personas preview functionality is still not-yet set up, so the pages really aren't testable.

One other note, per Catherine Brady: we need to update the footer so it contains the Creative Commons info that's currently on the live mozilla.com. (this applies universally to all the 3.6 pages)

It looks like this footer copyright info was never updated for the "product pages" (firstrun, whatsnew, etc.). Should these pages get the exact same content as the footer on the primary pages (home page, etc.)? Here's the text from the product pages: > Copyright © 2005–2009 Mozilla. All rights reserved. > Privacy Policy | Legal Notices Here's the text from all other pages: > Privacy Policy | Legal Notices | Report Trademark Abuse > Except where otherwise noted, content on this site is licensed > under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike License v3.0 > or any later version.

Include the stage version of the personas iframe in r54063.
[1] The link to "Firefox 3.6 Features" goes to http://www-3.6.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/; shouldn't it go to http://www-3.6.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/features/, instead? [2] Steven, please fix the 4 validation errors, if you can, thanks!

Two other small copy tweaks here (this is for consistency with terminology we use elsewhere)... Headline: Old version - What will your browser wear today? New version - What will your Firefox wear today? Little text at the bottom: Old version- Choose from the gallery of over 25,000 other designs New version- Choose from the gallery of over 25,000 other Personas Thanks!

Validation issues fixed in r54098 (iframe can't be used in XHTML strict, so we have to go with XHTML transitional for these pages) Features link fixed in r54099. Text edits from comment #14 fixed in r54102. Note that all three of these fixes also apply to the firstrun page (bug 521531).

Thanks Steven! I'm reassigning this to the QA team... We still need to update the featured persona images, which is in the works, but otherwise this page is feeling pretty solid.

As I just noted in Bug 521531, we'll be making some minor, yet important, tweaks to the design of the FR and WN pages. The general concept will remain the same, but the design layout and copy will be shifting. So, until I have more details on that, I wanted to ask if you can please hold off on any major QA or dev work on these pages. General issues, like the iframes, would still apply even to the new layout, but I want to make sure you don't have to duplicate your efforts with the upcoming changes. Thanks again for everyone's help so far. I'll update the appropriate bugs with new information as soon as I can. Thanks.

I won't repeat myself here (unless you want me to), but the new designs for the FR/WN pages are here. Additional instructions and details are on Bug 521531, Comment #28. Please follow this link to download the new PSD file: http://www.sendspace.com/file/75rixc Steven, the PSD is for the First Run page, but as you know the What's New page shares the same design layout and elements, with the exception of the header - which we'll have to change to what we had for this page. As you know, these two pages are top priority. And we'd like to have them done by end of the week, if possible, and handed off to QA. Please let me know if you have any questions, or if there's anything I can do to help. Thanks!

(ping!) Steven, I know you're probably already working on this. But just a little friendly push, to see if we can also have this page whipped up today and handed off to QA. That would be ideal, and really awesome. Thanks.

Ok, I've got the new design applied to the What's New page in r55341. I still need to figure out how to trigger the out-of-date Flash plugin warning stuff to make sure I didn't break it.

Ok, this page is pretty much set. However, like previous versions of the What's New page, there are three variations depending on browser: 1. 3.6 - the latest ("Thanks for supporting...") 2. Older version of Firefox ("You’re now running Firefox 3.x..." - it says 3.6 now, but don't be confused, this is for older versions) 3. We can't figure out what browser you've got ("You’re running an unknown version..."). Right now, you should be seeing #1, but you're probably seeing #2 because the product-details library thinks the latest version of Firefox is 3.5.5, not 3.6. I'd like to update this to 3.6 for the firefox3.6 branch in SVN, but this code (product-details lib) is shared with trunk, so I can't update it here without updating it everywhere. I'm CC'in morgamic, clouser, and buchanan for help with that - anything we can do there guys?

Thanks Steven. I love how quickly this is all coming together :) Marking as *Fixed* and filing for QA. Just wanted to also note that the header will be updated shortly.

Steven, old-plugin checking isn't working on http://www-3.6.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.6/whatsnew/ but does, on http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.5.4/whatsnew/. To test, I installed version 8 from http://www.oldversion.com, for Windows Vista.

Tested plugin check with older version of Flash, 10.0 r12 on Win Vista and the /whatsnew page deteted it and gave a Warning.
Steven, I think we're done on your side, here, right?. Talked to morgamic, and we can file a separate bug for comment 22 -- he has some ideas.

Cool; I'm fine with closing this and addressing comment 22 in its own bug.

The Personas display area is now showing a truncated excerpt from the getpersonas.com homepage instead of the preview thumbnails. I'm guessing this is related to the issue brought up in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=522754#c20, but we definitely need to fix soon.

I'm sorry to throw this into the mix at such a late stage, but we'd like to add one more text link to this page. The link should read "What are Personas?" and can go right under the thumbnails (probably right-justified). The link should point to http://www.getpersonas.com/en-US/getting_started (which is currently 404, but will be live before 3.6). The background is that we're putting together a new Personas overview video that will reside on this page. Important note: I'm not sure what the l10n status of the First Run page is, but I'm ok with leaving this new text off the localized versions (since the GetPersonas.com Getting Started page won't be localized as far as I know).
