When opening Eudore, it opens behind other open programs, rather than on the top level.

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en; rv:1.8.1.23) Gecko/20090925 Camino/1.6.10 (like Firefox/2.0.0.23) Build Identifier: Eudora 8.0b6 Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090408 Eudora/3.0b2 This never used to happen before, so I don't know if its due to a new version of Eudore, or migrating to Snow Leopard. Whenever I open Eudore, I have to click on its window to bring it to the top level. If other programs are open, it always opens below them and I have to click on its window to bring it up front and work with the program. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Double click on the Eudora icon 2.Eudora opens but is not selected. 3.Click on Eudora's window to select. Actual Results: same as above Expected Results: Eudora window is on top and active When opening it should be the window on top and activated.
This does not occur for me on MacOS 10.5.8, Eudora 3.0b3 (8.0b7). It's either something specific to 3.0b2 or Snow Leopard. Have you tried 8.0b7 and/or 10.6.x ?
I couldn't get 8.0b7 to work properly. Had lots of problems with the search engine and it caused numerous crashes. Unfortunately, when going back to 8.0b6, some of those crashes have continued, so the V8.0b7 install did some terrible things under the hood.

Did you file bug reports (and/or search for similar bugs) for those crashes ? > Unfortunately, when going back to 8.0b6, some of those crashes have continued, so the > V8.0b7 install did some terrible things under the hood. I haven't had any "crashing" problems with 8.0b7 and 10.5.8, although I didn't have 8.0b6 installed prior to installing 8.0b7. Did you file/search bug reports for the continuing crashing problems ?
I believe that someone else listed it somewhere's else: when you try to access the help menu, the program crashes. In 8.0b7, if I recall correctly, if you tried to search on subject, it would only search outgoing mails, and not incoming mails, but that was several months ago.
The Help Menu crash was reported, and (apparently) fixed as a result of Bug Report 499600. Unfortunately, I can't figure out when that was actually added to the codebase, because access to 499600 is restricted (probably due to some security-related information) -- therefore, I can't figure out the changeset that added the fix and figure out when it was applied. > [...] but that was several months ago. I take it, then, that you're not using Eudora 8.0b6 (or b7) at present. I was merely trying to determine if the "starting in background" problem was something that was unique to Snow Leopard, unique to 8.0b6, or was caused by something in your configuration. (NOTE: I'm not a Thunderbird/Penelope/Eudora developer, I was just trying to determine if this was recreatable).
I am currently using Eudora 8.0b6. The Help menu crashing has not been fixed, at least with the V8.0b6 or 8.0b7 versions that I have installed. If I remember correctly, that problem started with V8.0b7 for me, and when I reverted back to V8.0b6, the help menu continued to crash. I think the background thing is happening only under Snow Leopard, but I can't be entirely sure. I may have one or two other programs that do the same thing.
The change for the Help Key causing a crash was applied July 6, 2009. That change would not have been included in 8.0b6, but is included in 8.0b7. BTW, it wasn't a Eudora-specific bug; it was Mac-specific and affected Firefox, Thunderbird, etc. There was an additional bug that caused crashing with Snow Leopard -- see Bug Report 514114. For the "starting in the background" problem (the subject of this Bug Report), I can only suggest that you further investigate possible causes on your system -- particularly if Eudora is not the only program affected. I did some quick searches, and there have been no similar reports for either Eudora or Thunderbird (at least, none that I could find).
Well, my Help menu crashing did NOT occur until I installed V8.0b7. It was working properly under 8.0b6 and now continues to crash under V8.0b6 when I reverted back to V8.0b6. So, it seems to me, V8.0b7 did something to my system that even reinstalling V8.0b6 is not writing over. What it is I haven't the slightest idea. And V8.0b7 does not search correctly: Received messages: under "who" it shows who it is TO rather than who it is FROM so all you see under "who" is your name. Regarding this specific bug, I believe that only one other program in ALL the programs I use exhibits this problem besides Eudora. And it's not Camino, or Firefox. It's really not a big deal, I just click on the window to bring it up. If I'm the only one whose having the problem, so be it.
For what it's worth, using a current build (not a beta release, but the latest code) I am not able to reproduce the problem of the Help menu crashing (but can with beta 7) so I think the bug is fixed, even if not intentionally by us. Perhaps Mozilla fixed that I AM able to reproduce the problem of Eudora launching behind other apps on Snow Leopard. We'll look at that. Matt
Help menu crashing is fixed, and I have opened a bug (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=534683) for the open in background problem. I am going to mark this bug a duplicate of that one. Matt
