Note: this is a meta tracking bug for UI mockups and discussion of the overall user experience.
This is the history equivalent of bug 523523, which covers navigating to bookmark folders and tags through the awesome bar. Similar to that, we should enable the user to enter history ranges and navigate on them to see all of the pages that were accessed during that section of their history time line. So the user could potential enter terms into the awesome bar like:
"last thursday"
"july"
"10/3/09"
"october third"
"two weeks ago"
etc.
There is a *lot* of l10n work to do here, both in getting all of the strings localized, and in dealing with different date formats in different regions. We'll use this bug to get all of that scoped and determined.

the ubiquity parser can probably help here

I'm not sure if the ubiquity parsers will be the right thing to use, it's a js code snippet per language. That's not gonna fly with the localizers.
Surely though we should pick mitcho's brain on what he heard back on using date ranges in the languages that ubiquity supports so far, and how the UE is in different languages. And what technical flexibility we need to do what.

Does this bug also deal with the results as displayed in content? Is that another bug to file?

currently both history and bookmarks rendering in content are covered by the single bug 523524, but we can split that if you want.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".
In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.
Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
Gerv
Component: Places → Bookmarks & History
QA Contact: places → bookmarks
While I'm sure you didn't list all of the possible ways to select pieces of history, I also propose a "between" selector.
For example, "between 10/3/09 15/4/09" or "between last monday last friday". If wanted, an "and" could be put between the two dates.

I actually have spec'd the between selector as a property in the new Places Query API for Jetpack: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Labs/Jetpack/JEP/22#Proposal
I just experienced the "need" of another one. "latest", as in typing "latest mozilla" for example. That would take you to the last visited page that matches the word "mozilla".
