On the View | Layout menu there are a few different layouts to choose from, but there is no layout that provides maximum width for the message list.  With many columns to see (from, to, subject, date, size, etc.) it would make sense to have a view that gives the maximum width to the message list, like this:

This would allow enough room to view all the columns you want, while also allowing long folder names.  For example I have newsgroups like "g.c.l.b....er" and "g.s.l.w....al" which aren't really that helpful, and if I widen the folder view suddenly I can't see the dates the messages were sent (or I have to sacrifice some other column.)

In the view proposed above, there would be no issues with lengthy names.

howdy y'all,

wouldn't this be better described as "wide threadpane"? wide msgs implies the messagepane and i had to re-read the description twice to figure out why this was not covered by the standard view/layout/wide-view menu option.
